David Gaspersic

School: Freeport

Class: Junior

Sport: Golf

Report card: Gaspersic has gone from missing the cut on last year's Freeport postseason team to being one of the Yellowjackets top golfers to start the 2017 season. On Monday, he shot a 38 at Hillcrest Country Club to earn the medalist spot in Freeport's win over Burrell. He earned medalist last week against Riverview, turning in a 41 at Three Lakes Golf Course. Gaspersic is also a starting defenseman on the Freeport hockey team and started at catcher and outfielder for the Yellowjackets' junior varsity baseball team.

How long have you been playing golf?

This is going to be my third year with Freeport.

So the first time you picked up a golf club was your freshman year?

Yes. I signed up for the summer program just to try it out, and it ended up good.

What's your favorite course to play?

I really like Buffalo. I like the people there, and it's a very family-like course and welcoming.

What's the most challenging course to play in your section?

Probably Greensburg Country Club. It's got some tough fast greens and some quirky holes.

What's your favorite club in the bag?

Probably my 7-iron. I can use it in a lot of places, and I can hit that straight.

Do you have any hole-in-ones?

No, (but I) witnessed one.

What three people would you like have dinner with?

Jordan Spieth, Sidney Crosby and Morgan Freeman.

What three words best describe you?

Smart. Funny. Helpful.

What's your favorite golf movie?

“Caddyshack.”

Who should play you in a Hollywood movie?

Channing Tatum.

What's your most memorable moment from this past summer?

When I got to play Oakmont Country Club for the first time. I shot a 44 on the front nine.

What's your favorite subject at school?

Math or science.

What is something interesting about you that nobody knows?

I kind of like cooking. I've taken some culinary arts classes.

Lauren Schrock

School: Valley

Class: Junior

Sport: Tennis

Report card: Schrock joined the Valley girls tennis team her freshman year as a novice, and three years later she's blossomed into the Vikings' No. 1 singles player. She downed Springdale's Hannah Kern, 6-2, 6-1, to help Valley (2-0, 1-0) open Section 3-2A play with a 5-0 win over the Dynamos. Schrock notched her first win of the season last week against nonsection opponent Mt. Pleasant. She also starts at second base for the Vikings' softball team.

How long have you been playing tennis?

I picked up a racket the summer (before) my freshman year.

What is your favorite thing about playing tennis?

I have to say the camaraderie of the whole sport. I love the girls on my team, and coach (Rachael Link) is fantastic. I also like the individual aspects of singles: It's all on me.

Which is better, your forehand or backhand?

My backhand. It kind of comes more easily than my forehand.

What are your personal and team goals this season?

My goal for the team is that we make the WPIAL qualifiers and make it far this season. Personal, I'd like to make it to WPIALs this year.

What was your reaction when coach Rachel Link named you as the No. 1 singles starter?

I was thrilled and terrified all at the same time.

What three people would you like to have dinner with?

My grandpa, Albert Einstein and Kristen Bell.

What three words best describe you?

Congenial. Hardworking. Fun.

Who should play you in a Hollywood movie?

Emma Watson.

What's your most memorable moment from this past summer?

I have to say going to Utah. We just kind of rented an RV and hit up all the national parks.

What's your favorite subject at school?

I love biology.

What is something interesting about you that nobody knows?

My favorite type of movie is romantic comedy.
