Winner plays: No. 1 Central Catholic (14-4) or No. 8 Butler (12-6)

Extra bases: Plum is in the WPIAL quarterfinals for the sixth consecutive season. The Mustangs lost to eventual champion Pine-Richland in this round last season. In its 3-1 first-round victory over Mt. Lebanon, Plum scored all three of its runs in the first inning. Senior southpaw Ryan Kircher, a Kent State recruit, scattered seven hits, three walks and a hit batsman, striking out seven. Pete Zullo drove in a pair of runs. The win over Mt. Lebanon was Plum's sixth in a row. … Canon-McMillan blanked Norwin, 2-0, in the first round, to advance to the quarterfinals for the third consecutive season. The Big Macs lost in the semifinals each of the past two seasons. Zach Rohaley pitched 5 23 scoreless innings in the first round, keeping Norwin off the scoreboard despite nine hits. He struck out six. Nick Serafino delivered a sacrifice fly and Greydon Piechnick an RBI triple. Rohaley is 9-1 with a sub-1.00 ERA this season.
