In SSA’s first-round game in the PIAA championships, she scored three goals. She also plays squash for SSA.

The speedy running back rushed for 124 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 48, 4 and 4 yards. He also plays strong safety. He is undecided on a college but hopes to major in sports management. Faulkner also runs track and is considering going out for the basketball team this winter.

Mary Ellis, a junior on the Fox Chapel lacrosse team, has helped the squad to a strong start. In a 17-11 win over North Allegheny on April 1, she scored a goal and had nine assists. She followed that with two goals and four assists in an 11-10 overtime win over Pine-Richland on April 3. Mary is also on the FC field hockey team. She recently committed to play lacrosse at Maryland-Baltimore County, where she plans on majoring in business or finance.

Kate Carnevale, a senior on the Fox Chapel track and field team, ran away from a strong field of competitors April 19 at the Butler Invitational. She was named MVP after taking first in the 100 meters, second in the 200, fourth in the 400 and teaming with Sarena Seeger, Abby Kiefer and Maddy Kiefer to take third in the 1,600.

TJ Johnston, a senior on the Fox Chapel baseball team, has helped the team to a 5-2 start this season. Johnston, who plays shortstop and has been on the varsity for three years, also played on the FC football team. He will attend Penn State Behrend and continue to play baseball there. He hopes to major in engineering with a minor in business.

The Herald Spotlight Athlete: Fox Chapel’s Mary Ellis
Mary Ellis, a junior on the Fox Chapel lacrosse team, has helped the squad to a strong start. In a 17-11 win over North Allegheny on April 1, she scored a goal and had nine assists. She followed that with two goals and four assists in an 11-10 overtime win over Pine-Richland on April 3. Mary is also on the FC field hockey team. She recently committed to play lacrosse at Maryland-Baltimore County, where she plans on majoring in business or finance.

SSA girls lacrosse returns experienced roster

The Shady Side Academy girls lacrosse team, coached by Katy Phillips, is hoping to improve on last year’s 16-5 record that included a trip to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals. This year, they will be competing in Section 2-3A, which also includes Butler, Freeport, Indiana, Moon, North Allegheny, Fox Chapel, North Hills, Pine-Richland, Seneca Valley and Shaler.

The Fox Chapel boys tennis team claimed its third straight WPIAL Class AAA title last April as they blanked rival Shady Side Academy, 5-0. Foxes coach Alex Slezak will have most of the pieces returning from that team with the exception of doubles players Kuran Singh and Karsten Lagerquist, both of whom graduated.
