Jeannette's football team will receive a significant donation from one of the city's most recognizable and long-established businesses in its pursuit of championship rings.

The Elliott Group manufacturing company will cover most of the cost to fund the Jayhawks' ring drive. Jeannette won WPIAL and PIAA Class A championships this season, but the booster club did not have enough money to buy rings.

Total cost for the estimated 90 rings Jeannette plans to order is about $27,000.

“We wanted to recognize the team's accomplishment,” Elliott Chief Operating Officer Michael Lordi said. “They're a small school. … We're very happy to support the team. We have a longstanding relationship with the community.”

Elliott will present a check to Jeannette officials Feb. 12 during halftime of a home basketball game against Saltsburg. The football team will be recognized that night.

“This is unbelievable,” Jeannette coach Roy Hall said. “It's nice to know the businesses in town are behind our team and support us like they do. They reached out to us and said they'd be honored to do it.”

Hall said other businesses also have donated, and the team is fundraising with a night at the races, a spaghetti dinner and the selling of state-championship apparel.

The sizable gesture by Elliott reverberates Jeannette's football tradition and speaks to the support behind it.

Former Jayhawks quarterback and current NFL wide receiver Terrelle Pryor recently presented Hall with a check for $1,000 from Rosenhaus Sports Representation.

Hall said Pryor will pay for the team's banquet.
