The next time the Greensburg Salem wrestling teams wins a dual meet, which could be Wednesday against North Allegheny in the WPIAL Class AAA team tournament, Randy Parsley will reach a milestone.

The veteran coach is one win away from 200. Parsley got win 199 against Armstrong on Jan. 24 when the Golden Loins finished third in the Section 1-AAA tournament with a 52-24 victory.

But Parsley isn't concerned about the milestone. He has other things to focus on.

“I probably could have gotten 200 wins years ago if I would have taken my teams to more dual tournaments,” Parsley said. “I'm not looking to build up my record. My job is preparing my wrestlers for the individual tournaments the next two months.”

Greensburg Salem is 7-5 this season; Parsley's record in 20 seasons in 199-111.

Two weeks ago, McGuffey coach Mark Caffrey reached the 400-win mark and earlier this season Hempfield's Vince DeAugustine and Elizabeth Forward's Rich Scheuermann surpassed 200.

Caffrey is 401-93, DeAugustine 215-52 and Scheuermann 204-236. Former Kiski Area coach Chuck Tursky leads the WPIAL's career victory list with a 505-143-2 record, followed by the late Tom Dolde Sr. at 448-137-6. Fox Chapel coach Ron Frank is third at 410-279-7.

Keeping it 100

Ligonier Valley senior Alex Caldwell and Derry junior Dom DeLuca reached the 100-win plateau last week.

Caldwell (20-2, 100-40) reached the milestone when Ligonier Valley defeated Conemaugh Township on Jan. 23. The win came by injury default. He is ranked No. 6 in the state at 145 pounds in Class AA by PaPowerWrestling.com.

DeLuca (33-2, 101-20) picked up two pins in last Wednesday's Section 2-AA tournament as Derry defeated Beth-Center and McGuffey.

He is ranked No. 1 in the state at 220 pounds by PaPowerWrestling.com.

Big Mac attack

The Big Macs won their 17th consecutive section title and 40th in school history when they defeated Waynesburg and Moon in the Section 4 tournament.

Canon-McMillan, seeded No. 1 in the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs, knocked off Moon, 59-15, and earned a surprisingly easy 36-18 win against Waynesburg, which received the third seed.

The Big Macs defeated No. 2 Kiski Area earlier this season, but Kiski wasn't at full strength and recently welcomed back heavyweight Isaac Reid to the lineup.

Sherback, Willochell grab titles

Latrobe senior Brady Sherback and sophomore Gabe Willochell grabbed titles at the Ultimate Warriors tournament Saturday at West Branch.

The Wildcats finished seventh out of 31 teams with 101.5 points. Bald Eagle Area won the tournament with 167.5 points.

Sherback pinned St. Joseph's Amonn Ohl in the third period to grab the 106-pound title, while Willochell defeated Moshannon Valley's Alex Richner, 6-0. Latrobe's Logan Zitterbart placed sixth at 145, and Marino Angelicchio placed seventh at 113.

Bedford champions

Four WPIAL Class AA wrestlers claimed titles at the Thomas Chevrolet Tournament at Bedford.

Winning titles were Burrell's Ian Oswalt (113), Freedom's Kenny Dushek (120), Jefferson-Morgan's Gavin Teasdale (126) and South Fayette's Mike Cusick (145). Mt. Pleasant's Damian George (106) and Alex Miscovich (132) and Freedom's Z.J. Ward (126) and Burrell's Corey Christie (152) took second.

Mt. Pleasant's Doug Bittner (113) and Cody Vokes (heavyweight) and Burrell's A.J. Corrado (132) and Shaun Gates (160) each placed third.

Burrell ended up third with 161.5 points behind Chestnut Ridge with 228.5 and Greenville with 166.5.

It was quite a week for Corrado, who upset No. 1 ranked John Rocco Kazalas, 5-4, in the Section 3 tournament, but fell to Miscovich, 8-6, in the semifinals at Bedford.
