Highlands has a new baseball coach.

Former assistant Jeff Campbell will take over for Brett Burger, who resigned after one season to take over the position at Springdale.

Campbell, last season's junior varsity coach, spent six seasons as an assistant under both Burger and previous coach Jeff Weissert.

Highlands finished 1-16 last season, including a 1-13 mark in Section 1-4A. The Golden Rams last posted a winning season in 2007 and have a record of 36-129 since. Their last playoff appearance came in 2003.

“I think the big thing I want to try to get into these boys' minds is that they need to believe in themselves, and they need to know that myself and the coaching staff and parents believes in them and they have the ability to turn this program around,” said Campbell, 58.

Campbell is a 1977 Highlands graduate. His son, also named Jeff, played for the Golden Rams, graduating in 2009, and later played at Pitt-Johnstown.
