Monessen edges Cambridge Springs in PIAA 1st round

Dana Vatakis threw a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts to guide WPIAL runner-up Monessen to a 3-2 victory over District 10 champion Cambridge Springs in a PIAA Class A softball game at Penn State Behrend.
Cara Wheeler hit a two-run triple, and Vatakis and Mattie Telegraphis each had two hits.
The Greyhounds (16-4) will play WPIAL third-place team Union (18-3) in the quarterfinals Thursday at a time and site to be determined.
