Freeport's school history-making lacrosse season ended against a familiar opponent.

No. 1 Mars jumped out to a seven-goal lead after the first quarter and never looked back, downing No. 8 Freeport, 18-5, in the WPIAL Class AA boys quarterfinals Thursday night. The teams are both members of Section 1-AA.

Garret Schaffhauser scored four goals and Brennon Riley tallied the other for Freeport (11-6), which was coming off a first-round win over Seton LaSalle — the first postseason victory in school history. Greg Smith made six saves.

Mars advanced to play No. 5 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic in the semifinals at 8 p.m. Wednesday at North Allegheny.
