PIHL Penguins Cup playoffs roundup: Hampton defeats USC to reach semifinals

Matthew Commendatore had two goals, and Jason Reinert, William Meglio, Luke Reiser and Evan Koprivnkar also scored as Hampton defeated Upper St. Clair, 6-2, in the first round of the PIHL Class AA Penguins Cup playoffs Thursday at Ice Castle.

The Talbots (10-6-4) will play Armstrong in the semifinals Wednesday at RMU Island Sports Center.

Mark McQuade and Joseph Pulit had goals for USC (11-7-2).

Class AAA

Cathedral Prep 3, Mt. Lebanon 0 — At Mercyhurst College Ice Center, Christopher Parks, Jordan Adams and Donovan Cullen all scored to lift No. 3 Cathedral Prep (13-4-2) past No. 6 Mt. Lebanon (8-9-2).

Cathedral Prep will play No. 2 Seneca Valley in the semifinals Thursday at RMU Island Sports Center.

Class A

Bishop McCort 7, Sewickley Academy 5 — At Cambria County War Memorial, Brett Seitz had three goals and two assists for No. 1 Bishop McCort (21-0) in a PIHL Class A Penguins Cup first-round win.

John Duggan had two goals for No. 8 Sewickley Academy (14-8).

Meadville 4, Westmont Hilltop 2 — Nick Frantz had four goals to guide No. 2 Meadville (18-3) to a PIHL Class A Penguins Cup first-round win at Meadville Area Rec Center.

South Fayette 5, Thomas Jefferson 2 — At Rostraver Ice Gardens, Ian Kumar had three goals and an assist as No. 6 South Fayette (15-6-1) earned a PIHL Class A Penguins Cup first-round victory. Brandon Poage had two goals and an assist for the Lions, who will play Meadville in the semifinals Tuesday at RMU Island Sports Center.

Joey Oliver and Matt Krieger scored for Thomas Jefferson (17-4).

Indiana 4, West Allegheny 3 (OT) — At Baierl Ice Complex, Vincent Sherry scored with 2:39 left in overtime to give Indiana (17-4-1) a PIHL Class A first-round victory.

Tyler Barker, Zachary Eisenhoward and Daniel Williams scored for No. 5 Indiana, which will play No. 1 Bishop McCort in the semifinals Tuesday at RMU Island Sports Center.

Kellen Almady had a hat trick for No. 4 West Allegheny (16-5).
