Plum junior Devan Taylor hauled in a pair of medals at the WPIAL Class AAA swim championships last week at Pitt's Trees Pool.

She swam to a fourth-place finish in the Class AAA 100 breaststroke. Her time of 1:04.16, surpassed her own school record set last year.

“I'm very excited. I was a really good experience. I'm really happy with my swim and my time,” Taylor said.

Butler sophomore Laura Goettler won the event with a time of 1:02.89.

“Going through the turns and seeing (Goettler) right next to me gave me that push to go faster,” Taylor said. “Everybody in that heat was neck-and-neck. It was really exciting.”

Taylor also took sixth in 200 IM (2:09.97).

“It was an OK swim, but not what I wanted,” Taylor said. “I hope to get another shot at it at states.”

The Plum girls 200 medley relay also earned a medal, taking seventh with a school-record time of 1:50.26. The record had stood since 1992.

The group included Delanee White, Taylor, Charlotte Jones and Alex Smith.

“It was so exciting for all of us,” Taylor said. “We thought we could do it. All of our energy went into that race. That record stood for such a long time. It's an amazing feeling for us to be the ones to get the record.”

The Plum girls finished 15th in the team standings and the boys were 21st.
