PIAA board to reveal playoff brackets

Updated state football playoff brackets for the 2018 and 2019 seasons could be revealed Wednesday when the PIAA board of directors meets in Mechanicsburg.

The WPIAL can’t finalize its district playoff brackets until the PIAA’s are released. Only then will the WPIAL know what round each of its champions will enter the state playoffs.

In the past two years, the WPIAL Class 6A, 5A and 4A champions entered the state playoffs in the quarterfinals, while the three smallest classifications joined a week later in the state semifinals.

A busy week for Moon, West Allegheny

Only a half-game separates second-place Moon (13-2, 5-1) and third-place West Allegheny (7-7, 5-2) in the Section 2-5A boys basketball standings entering Wednesday’s matchup. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. at Moon.

The two teams will play three section games in four days this week.
