Southmoreland athletic director Charlie Swink said Tuesday that he'll know better after Thursday's school board planning session what direction the district will take on hiring a new football coach.

Swink said he already conducted interviews of potential candidates within the district and all are capable of taking over the program.

“I would have liked to have a person in place by now so he could get the weight lifting program started,” Swink said. “But if the board is satisfied with the candidates within the district, we could have a person hired by next week.”

Swink said if the board doesn't like the candidates within the district, he will advertise for a coach outside the district.

The new coach will replace Mark Adams, who resigned after the season. The Scotties were 0-9 during an injury-filled 2017 campaign which saw numerous freshmen inserted into the starting lineup.

Adams compiled a 12-34 record in five seasons.
