So who was the best Huss on Saturday at the Westmoreland County Coaches' Association Track and Field Championship?

That honor goes to Norwin sophomore Logan Huss, who edged his cousin, senior Will Huss from Derry, in winning the 400-meter dash and helped the Knights' 400 relay team to a win.

“I guess I am,” Logan said with a smile.

The Huss dads — Dean and Mark — ran at Hempfield. Dean now lives in the Derry School District, and Mark is in Norwin.

“I would have given Logan a run for his money,” sophomore Justin Huss said. “It would have been close.”

Justin Huss missed the meet will recovering from a tie injury.

“Justin is probably right,” Logan said.

They trained together in the summer at the Greensburg YMCA.

“It was a lot of fun competing,” Will said. “We train a lot together. We look forward to the competition.”

Binda shines

Greensburg Salem junior Cameron Binda has started to pull away in the distance runs.

He won the 1,600 and 3,200, and he ran away from the pack.

“It's what I came here to do,” Binda said. “I tried my hardest to do it. I've put in a lot of hard work and effort at practice. I'm starting to peak.”

He beat teammate Mark Brown by three seconds in the 1,600 and Norwin's Alex Jubert by 14 seconds in the 3,200.

Turning point

Ligonier Valley senior Rachel Horrell hopes winning the triple jump will turn her season around. The IUP recruit also placed sixth in the long jump.

Her vault in the triple jump was a season-best 36 feet.

“I was down on myself,” Horrell said. “It was a good jump, not my best, but the best this season. I felt really good.”

Proud Spartan

Hempfield senior Eudel Moreta is from the Dominican Republic. He said he and his friends would jog around, not run, and he played baseball.

But he won the 100 and 200 dashes at the county meet and set a meet and stadium record in the 200.

“I'm proud of my accomplishment,” Moreta said. “My hard work is paying off.”
