MONDAY

Boys lacrosse

A trio of area underdog teams will open the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs, all at 7 p.m.

No. 16 seed Norwin visits No. 1 Pine-Richland, No. 13 Franklin Regional plays at No. 4 North Allegheny and No. 12 Latrobe travels to play at No. 5 Upper St. Clair.

Girls lacrosse

Franklin Regional is the only local lacrosse team, boys or girls, hosting a first-round playoff game. The sixth-seeded Panthers take on Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic at 7 p.m.

Boys volleyball

The WPIAL will announce first-round playoff pairings. The playoffs could begin Tuesday.

TUESDAY

Baseball

Eight area teams are scheduled to open the WPIAL playoffs, all at neutral sites.

Norwin (7-7), seeded 13th in Class 6A, looks to upset No. 4 Canon-McMillan (13-5) in a first-round game at 4:30 p.m. at the Boyce-Mayview Complex in Upper St. Clair.

• In Class 5A, No. 6 Franklin Regional (14-4) faces No. 11 Montour (11-9) at 2 p.m. at West Mifflin, and defending champion and No. 10 Latrobe (11-9) takes on No. 7 Chartiers Valley (8-7) at 4:30 at West Mifflin in a semifinal rematch from last year.

• In Class 4A, No. 8 Greensburg Salem (11-5) takes on No. 9 South Park (14-6) at 4 p.m. at Gateway, and No. 7 Belle Vernon (11-5) plays No. 10 Hopewell (11-9) at 4:30 at Hempfield.

• Defending Class A champion Jeannette (11-3) opens against No. 12 Leechburg (4-10) at 2 at Fox Chapel, and No. 7 Monessen (10-6) has No. 10 Western Beaver (9-7) at 2 at the Burkett Complex in Robinson.

Softball

The WPIAL playoffs begin for three local teams, two of them in Class 4A. No. 4 seed Belle Vernon (17-3) takes on No. 13 Uniontown (3-11) at 7 p.m. at Latrobe's Graham-Sobota Field.

No. 12 Derry (5-9) plays No. 5 Ambridge (8-5) at 7 at Baldwin.

• In Class 6A, No. 5 Norwin (10-6) plays No. 12 North Hills (5-9) in a first-round game at 2 p.m. at Plum.

Boys lacrosse

No. 12 seed Greensburg Central Catholic plays No 5 Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic at 7 p.m. at Mars in the WPIAL Class AA first round.

Girls lacrosse

Latrobe, the No. 11 seed in Class AAA, begins the WPIAL Class AAA playoffs at No. 6 Sewickley Academy at 4 p.m.

• No. 12 seed Norwin opens the postseason at No. 5 Upper St. Clair at 7 p.m.

Boys tennis

The PIAA team playoffs begin.

WEDNESDAY

Softball

After splitting the Section 1-5A title, Penn-Trafford (16-3) and Franklin Regional (14-5) will open the Class 5A playoffs after first-round byes.

No. 3 seed Penn-Trafford takes on Moon (11-5) or Thomas Jefferson (10-5), and No. 4 Franklin Regional faces Connellsville (11-6) or Hampton (8-8) at times and sites to be determined.

• In Class A, No. 2 Monessen opens against Riverview (11-4) or Quigley Catholic (6-6).

Baseball

No. 7 Penn-Trafford (12-5) plays No 10 North Allegheny (10-9) in a Class 5A playoff opener at 7 at Latrobe, and No. 11 Mt. Pleasant (8-7) faces No. 6 Burrell (9-3) at 4:30 at Latrobe.

THURSDAY

Track & field

Baldwin again will be the host site for the WPIAL boys and girls individual championships. Athletes will secure spots in next week's PIAA meet.

Softball

After first-round byes, Hempfield (17-3), Latrobe (10-3), Mt. Pleasant (15-0), Yough (15-3) and Southmoreland (7-6) will begin the WPIAL playoffs.

Times and sites will be determined.

• Hempfield, the top seed in Class 6A, gets the winner of Canon-McMillan (9-6) and Fox Chapel (6-8), and No. 3 Latrobe faces Seneca Valley (11-5) or Peters Township (9-8).

• In Class 4A, Mt. Pleasant opens with Blackhawk (8-4) or Knoch (12-5), and Yough takes on Indiana or West Mifflin.

Southmoreland plays Steel Valley (11-6) or Deer Lakes (5-7) in Class 3A.
