With only a few days left in the 2018 WPIAL baseball regular season, here are the teams that have punched their ticket to the district postseason. Check out TribHSSN.TribLive.com for exclusive broadcast coverage of the WPIAL baseball playoffs. This list updated through Sunday, May 6:
Class 6A — Set with 13 teams
(6A explanation: North Allegheny finished tied for fourth place with Shaler and Seneca Valley. North Allegheny finished 3-1 in head-to-head, Shaler was 2-2 and Seneca Valley was 1-3, so North Allegheny clinches)
Class 5A
(5A playoff scenario: Trinity can clinch with a win at Montour on Monday).
Class 4A — Set with 12 teams
Class 3A
Valley
South Side Beaver
Waynesburg
(3A playoff scenario: New Brighton can clinch a playoff berth if they win at Beaver Falls on 5/7 and if Ellwood City loses at home to Mohawk on 5/8. If New Brighton and Ellwood City both win, it forces a three way tie for fourth place between those two and Beaver Falls. Beaver Falls wins the tiebreaker based on a 3-1 record in head-to-head.)
Class 2A
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic
Laurel
(2A playoff scenario: If Fort Cherry beats Beth-Center, Fort Cherry and California will clinch. California can clinch with a win over Frazier on Monday. Beth-Center can clinch with wins over Fort Cherry and at Chartiers-Houston on Monday. Bishop Canevin can clinch with a win over Riverview on Monday or at Northgate on Wednesday. Apollo-Ridge can clinch with two wins and two Bishop Canevin section losses or three section wins and one Bishop Canevin section loss. Apollo-Ridge has a doubleheader against Sto-Rox on Tuesday and at Riverview on Thursday).
Class A — Set with 12 teams
