Seton Hill will host the WPIAL softball finals later this month, but some playoff teams could get an early look at the new championship venue.

The WPIAL would like to use the university's field for select quarterfinal games, said WPIAL executive director Tim O'Malley. It would be a test run of sorts for the championships May 30-31.

O'Malley already contacted Seton Hill to make arrangements.

“We would be open to going there if available,” he said, “just to make sure everybody's on board before our finals.”

Albert Gallatin, Hempfield, Latrobe and Penn-Trafford are among the likely candidates to play there Wednesday or Thursday. All four had first-round byes.

“I'd like to get out there and make sure we work out the kinks,” O'Malley said. “We're going to try to get in a couple of days. One day to try it, the next day to improve on it, and then hopefully we'll be ready.”

Cal (Pa.) had hosted the WPIAL softball championship for years but its field is under renovation and unavailable.
