A year after finishing as WPIAL runners-up, Hampton tennis pair Ben Ringeisen and Ted Donegan is ready for another run at the doubles title.

The four-round tournament starts at noon Thursday with 16 teams in both the Class AAA and Class AA brackets.

The first three rounds for Class AAA are at Alpha Tennis Club in Harmar. Club Sport and Health Monroeville will host the first three Class AA rounds.

The championships and consolation matches for both classes are 2 p.m. Friday at North Allegheny.

Ringeisen, now a sophomore, and Donegan, a senior, reached the Class AAA finals last season before losing to a doubles team from Upper St. Clair, a tandem that isn't back.

The Hampton pair rallied to win the Section 2 title Thursday with a third-set tiebreaker and establish themselves as challengers for the WPIAL title. They defeated North Allegheny's Richard Hofmann and Ivan Voinov, 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6), in the section finals Tuesday.

The top four doubles teams from each section qualified for the WPIAL tournament.

The other section winners in Class AAA are Penn-Trafford's Turner Price and Kevin Lee, Shady Side Academy's Naman Dua and Colin Gramley, and Peters Township's Ethan Muza and Ethan Farmer.

In Class AA, the section winners were South Park's Devin Stolar and Logan Mannheimer, Quaker Valley's Zach Albert and Johnny Watters, Valley's Alex Ward and Michael Odrey, and Sewickley Academy's Will Nosito and Dylan Parla.

Seeding for the brackets were released Wednesday.
