Mt. Lebanon junior quarterback Seth Morgan, who shared time with senior James Stocker, completed 3 of 9 passes for 66 yards. Stocker was returning from an injury. Morgan hit Cain with the long touchdown and scored on a 2-yard run as Mt Lebanon led 17-0 at halftime.

Smith leads South Park past Mt. Pleasant
Through the air and on the ground, Damon Smith led the fourth-ranked Eagles to a 14-9 win over Mt. Pleasant in an Class 3A Interstate Conference showdown at Dormont Memorial Stadium. It is the first time South Park started a season 2-0 since 2006. Smith led the team with 136 rushing yards with two scores to go with 149 passing yards.

DERRY 47, YOUGH 8

Derry bounces back with rout of Yough
Derry was back on track Friday night against Yough after having its 12-game regular-season winning streak stopped. Ryan Polinsky threw two touchdown passes, and Justin Huss scored twice in a span of three minutes in the first quarter as Derry routed visiting Yough, 47-8, in a Class 3A Interstate Conference game.

The Jayhawks started fast, and kept the pace up in a 49-6 victory over Eastern Conference opponent Leechburg on Friday at McKee Stadium.

With the Golden Rams (1-1, 1-1) down 34-26 and 5 minutes, 51 seconds left in regulation, Cohen and the offense rallied. On third and 10, Cohen threw a 55-yard touchdown to senior receiver Ryan Signorella. Cohen then found senior receiver Romello Freeman for the two-point conversion to tie the game at 34.

SETON LaSALLE 37, at VALLEY 14

Seton LaSalle rallies to take down Valley in Allegheny Conference
Seton LaSalle scored right before halftime, raced past Valley in the third quarter and finished off a 37-14 victory to improve to 2-0, both overall and in conference play.

SHADY SIDE ACADEMY 42, BURRELL 8

Shady Side Academy QB Moore leads Indians to rout of Burrell
Junior dual-threat quarterback Skyy Moore set the tone for the game — and possibly the season — by rushing for four touchdowns and throwing for another as Shady Side Academy downed Burrell, 42-8, in both teams’ WPIAL Class 3A Allegheny Conference opener.

No. 1 Clairton holds off Springdale’s upset bid with interception return for TD
Everyone is fully aware of what Clairton brings to the table as a football program. Even though the Bears had won 40 consecutive games against WPIAL opponents, the winning streak didn’t scare the Springdale Dynamos.

APOLLO-RIDGE 27, BEAVER FALLS 19

Apollo-Ridge knocks off defending WPIAL champion Beaver Falls
A confident Apollo-Ridge team rolled into Beaver Falls on Friday night and knocked off the defending WPIAL and PIAA champs 27-19 in a Class 3A nonconference game.

Jared Hartman threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead No. 3 Belle Vernon (2-0, 2-0) to a Big 9 Conference win at Uniontown (0-3, 0-2). Logan Pfrogner caught two scoring passes for Belle Vernon, which scored all of its points in the first half.

MONESSEN 14, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 12

Justin Towler’s 10-yard run in the fourth quarter helped Monessen (1-2, 1-1) win a Tri-County South game.

LATROBE 48, CHARTIERS VALLEY 26

The Wildcats (1-2) earned their first win of the season with a nonconference triumph over Chartiers Valley (0-3).

FORT CHERRY 33, GREENSBURG CENTRAL CATHOLIC 30 (OT)

Fort Cherry (1-1) booted a field goal in overtime to edge Greensburg Central Catholic (1-2) in a nonconference game.

NORWIN 54, SHALER 7

In nonconference play, Jayvon Thrift ran for 177 yards and two touchdowns to lead Norwin (2-1) to the win over Shaler (0-3). Jack Salopek added 162 passing yards and a touchdown.

CHARLEROI 54, SOUTHMORELAND 7

Perry Hunter ran for 209 yards and three touchdowns to lead Class 2A Charleroi (2-1) to victory over Class 3A Southmoreland (0-2). Geno Pellegrini threw for 138 yards and ran for a 10-yard touchdown.

LIGONIER VALLEY 44, NORTHERN CAMBRIA 0

In the District 6 Heritage Conference, Ligonier Valley improved to 3-0 overall and in conference play with a shutout victory.
