Here are five Western Pennsylvania girls to watch at the PIAA Class AA track and field championships Friday and Saturday at Shippensburg.

Brenna Cavanaugh, Bentworth, senior

Cavanaugh is the returning PIAA champion in the 100-meter hurdles and is seeded No. 1 this season. The Bentworth senior is seeded No. 2 in the long jump. She was the WPIAL winner in both events and also qualified in the triple jump.

Rachel Horrell, Ligonier Valley, senior

The IUP recruit leaped 38 feet, 11 inches in the triple jump as a junior, but struggled to match that jump in 2018 until the District 6 championship meet, when she won with a leap of 38-7½. The top four jumpers in the state are all from District 6, and two surpassed 38 feet.

Maura Huwalt, South Park, junior

The junior was a WPIAL champion in the shot put, discus and javelin. Huwalt is seeded first in the shot put with a throw of 43-5. She is seeded second in the discus, 137-8, and third in the javelin, 135-5.

Maddie Raymond, South Park, freshman

The freshman was the WPIAL champion in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She is seeded third in the state in both events. She ran 12.18 seconds in the 100 and 25.16 in the 200.

Melissa Riggins, Shady Side Academy, freshman

This freshman won both the 800- and 1,600-meter runs at the WPIAL championships and is seeded No. 1 in both races at the state meet. Riggins, who won the Pine-Richland Invitational, ran 4:56.36 in the 1,600 and 2:15.07 in the 800.
