7 WPIAL teams set for Friday’s PIAA basketball quarterfinals

That big thump sound you heard was a lot of WPIAL teams hitting a permanent stop on the season Tuesday and being forced to exit the Road to Hershey.

District 7 had 19 teams entering the second round of the PIAA boys 5A, boys 4A, boys A, girls 6A, girls 3A and girls 2A brackets on Tuesday.

Only seven moved on to the state quarterfinals.

Among those to fall were three WPIAL champions — Belle Vernon (4A boys), Greensburg Central Catholic (3A girls) and Aliquippa (2A girls).

Those heading to the PIAA third round Friday are Chartiers Valley, North Catholic, Neighborhood Academy and Aquinas Academy boys, along with Upper St. Clair, Shady Side Academy and OLSH girls.

Here are the sites and times for the PIAA quarterfinal games Friday on the Road to Hershey, plus all the results from the first two rounds Friday and Tuesday of the 2025 PIAA basketball postseason.
