Butler’s Jackson Jungling shot a perfect score of 200-20x to win the WPIAL rifle championship Thursday at Dormont-Mt. Lebanon Sportsmen’s Club in Canonsburg.

Jungling is Butler’s third champion, the first since Kayla Fry shared the title in 2007. He is the first champion with a perfect score since West Greene’s Sheyann Watson in 2020.

Hempfield’s Brooke Fanala was runner-up for the second straight season, shooting a 200-19x. Armstrong’s Riley Watson was third, also with a 200-19x score.

Butler Rachel Katsko, Upper St. Clair’s Erin Shehab and Mt. Lebanon’s Alexander Chadran were next with a score of 200-18x.

Mt. Lebanon’s Whistle Foxbury and Trinity teammates Ryan Walther and Elizabeth Engle shot 200-17x.

The top 16 finishers advance to the state championships.

That list includes Upper St. Clair’s Ben Waldron, Woodland Hills’ Anthony Nemanic, Hempfield’s Aiden McVicker, Trinity’s Meredith Ashby and Waynesburg’s Emily Burnfield, who shot 200-16x, and Penn-Trafford’s Emily Valenta and Butler’s Alyssa Miller, who were the top two finishers out of six shooters with a score of 200-15x.

Jungling broke a streak of three consecutive girls claiming the WPIAL rifle title. In the last 10 years, Jungling and Bethel Park’s Travis Zeis in 2021 are the only boys to win championships.
