Welcome to another edition of “PIHL Notebook,” your weekly companion to “The PIHL Power Play” on the MSA Sports Network. First up, “Melting the Ice” provides your weekly thermometer of streaking teams around the league. Meanwhile, this week’s “Scoreboard Watch” includes a rematch of last year’s Class AAA championship game, some offensive fireworks in Class AA and an upset in Class A. Last but not least, we round things out with a preview of upcoming MSA broadcasts, including a cross-conference showdown in Class AA and a cross-classification match-up in Division 2. We end the first half of section play in and then tip off the second half in WPIAL basketball this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We have nearly 60 WPIAL boys and girls section basketball games along with scholastic hardwood boys and girls action from both District 6 and District 9. The puck drops on more PIHL high school hockey and we hit the mats for both WPIAL and District 6 wrestling coverage. WPIAL Alum Q&A – Matt Skoff

More than six years ago, the Montour hockey team made an unlikely run to the PIHL Class AA Penguins Cup Championship Game. Undoubtedly, the play of goaltender Matt Skoff was the biggest reason for the Spartans reaching the title game. Monday night, Skoff returned to his hometown, as a member of the Penn State hockey team. Skoff and the Nittany Lions will compete in the Three Rivers Classic at Consol Energy Center both Monday and Tuesday.PIHL Notebook – 12/29/2015

WPIAL Alum Q&A – Luke Stork

Even though the warm December temperatures have not made the past few weeks feel like winter, on the high school calendar, it is certainly winter sports time. Consequently, the WPIAL Alum Q&A will shift its focus to former high school standouts who are now playing well at the collegiate level in basketball or hockey. This week, former Upper Saint Clair hockey player and current member of the Ohio State hockey team Luke Stork is profiled. Like several of the elite hockey players in the area, Stork did not spend his entire time during his high-school years playing with the school’s varsity team. The end of another season and the end of the four classification era in Pennsylvania also marks the final cruise on the 2015 Road to Hershey this week here on the MSA Sports Network.
