MSA Sports Top Ten – PIHL Hockey – 12/08/2010

Each Wednesday during the regular season, MSA Sports will rank the top eight teams in Class AAA, the top seven teams in both Class AA, Class A and finally, the top ten teams in the Open Class. A pair of boys basketball teams captured WPIAL gold for a second straight season last year as both North Catholic in Class AA and Sewickley Academy in Class A successfully repeated as district boys basketball champions. Elsewhere, after taking home silver in 2009, Mount Lebanon went from preseason to postseason at #1 and captured Quad A gold while T.J.Big Game Hunting: The Football ‘Three’pack for Week 15
And then there were three, the football four-pack shrinks to three in week 15 as AAA WPIAL champion Central Valley bows out in the state quarterfinals. The state playoffs began for the four WPIAL football champions on Friday night with snow and a chill in the air. The WPIAL has never swept the PIAA football playoffs in 22 years of the state postseason and it won't again here in 2010. There was a time when every WPIAL football team played ten games. It was called the regular season. Since the district went to a nine-week regular season, non-playoff football teams have a choice whether they want to play a tenth game. Ten teams have the perfect outlook on the WPIAL playoffs. The playoffs start Friday night and 10 WPIAL teams enter the postseason with perfect 9-0 records. A year ago, not one team made it through the WPIAL playoffs with an undefeated record.
