Tuesday night brought forth an incredibly emotional and hard fought volleyball match as the undefeated Fort Cherry Rangers traveled to Bishop Canevin to take on the Crusaders. Bishop Canevin came into the match at 11-1 in the section, with their only loss coming earlier in the year at Fort Cherry, where they were swept 3-0 in straight sets. Things turned out quite differently on Tuesday as Bishop Canevin rallied behind it’s home crowd and took down the Rangers in 5 exciting sets 3-2 (25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-9)
Chartiers-Houston Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap
Prior to Chartiers-Houston’s Class 1A Section 3 matchup with Burgettstown at home Tueday, Oct. 18, the Lady Bucs took a step back to honor the seniors on the team on Senior Night. Chartiers-Houston recognized the two seniors on the roster for Burgettstown, Claudia Werner, who didn’t play in the match due to injury, as well as Paige Sherman. We head into the second half of October, which means the transition from regular season to postseason begins in high school volleyball and soccer this week here on the MSA Sports Network. The 'Stretch Run' of the high school football season continues with Week Eight and The Network has 30 WPIAL football weekend contests starting with the MSA Sports pregame Show Friday at 6pm and concluding with the WPIAL Scoreboard Show Friday at 9:30pm.
Moon Tigers Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 10/13/2016

At Moon high school in Hometown Volleyball action the Moon Tigers beat their section Rival the Canon McMillan Big Macs three sets to one to win their first section match of the year Thursday evening. In the first set it was back and forth and more of a defensive game. Both teams scored off of each other's mistakes. Neither team could get their offense working. It was tied 13 times, and no team led by more than 3 until the Big Macs led 20-17. The Moon back court of Libero Raquel Richards and Ashley Sleva both seniors led the way for the Tigers. South Side Rams Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 10/12/2016

The Lady Rams of South Side battled hard and hung tough against the visiting Trojanettes of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic, but fell short 3-1 (25-14, 24-26, 25-13, 25-16) in a Class 2A Section 2 clash. South Side jumped to an early lead in the opening set. Sophomore Rachel Pieto's back-to-back aces to start the match gave the Lady Rams the early momentum. CWNC would battle back with their own success from the service line. The Trojanettes recorded six of their 18 service aces in the first set, four coming from Sammy Robb, and took the opening stanza 25-14.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 10/10/2016

The 4A standout Armstrong River Hawks traveled to Freeport on Wednesday night to face The Freeport Yellow Jackets. A 2A conference team doesn’t seem like the proper title for Freeport as they gave Armstrong everything they could handle. Armstrong took the match in 4 competitive sets (27-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-17). Baldwin Highlanders Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 09/27/2016

Baldwin came into the season the two-time defending WPIAL Girls Class AAA volleyball champions. They were also riding a 40-match winning streak against WPIAL opponents. Both of those facts meant that Baldwin hadn’t lost much over the last two seasons, let alone get swept in straight sets, but that’s what happened in this match as the Black Hawks came on the road and took all three games in this 4A Section 2 matchup at Baldwin. The first set started as a back-and-forth game and was tied at 5-5 before Bethel Park went on a 5-0 run and never trailed again in posting a (25-21) victory. Maddie Sgattoni paced Baldwin in the opening game with 5 kills and an ace, but Bethel Park used consistent hitting and serving from Stephanie Kazalas to capture the win.
WPIAL Alum Q&A – Catherine Ferragonio

While Norwin's girls basketball team has garnered headlines recently for winning back-to-back WPIAL championships, the Knights' girls volleyball program has been very accomplished in recent seasons, as well. Just a few years ago, Norwin's Catherine Ferragonio established herself as one of the top players in the district, and helped guide the Knights to a section crown and playoff success. South Side Rams Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 09/20/2016

The Lady Rams of South Side started off strong in their big Class 2A Section 2 matchup, but lost to visiting Quaker Valley 3-1 (15-25, 25-17, 25-19, 28-26). Everything was clicking early for coach Jason Benkowski's squad in the first game, as South Side quickly jumped to an 8-0 lead. The Lady Rams used some crisp passing and capitalized on Quaker Valley miscues in that opening frame to get the early advantage. The tides quickly changed in the second game, as the good ball movement that led to a game one victory for South Side vanished. Unforced hitting errors plagued the Lady Rams, and allowed for Quaker Valley to get back into the match.
Freeport Yellow Jackets Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 09/20/2016
Although the performance was far from perfect, the Freeport Yellow Jackets maintained their perfect record on the campaign with a straight-sets triumph against the Derry Area Trojans. Freeport prevailed against its section adversary 25-21, 25-18, 25-20. As a result, the defending champions improved to 5-0 in Class 2A Section 5, while the Trojans dropped to 2-2. It was the Trojans who controlled the play in the early stages of the first set, however, as Derry scored the first three points, and led as late as 14-13. From that point forward, though, the Yellow Jackets found another gear, and outscored the Trojans 9-5 to close out the opening set.
Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap
With the re-classification of girl’s volleyball for the 2016 season, the Chartiers Houston Buccaneers find themselves in a section with both Fort Cherry and defending WPIAL Champion and PIAA Champion Bishop Canevin, on top of losing its best player, Kylee Levers to the Pitt Panthers’ volleyball squad, and two other key pieces from last year’s section champion squad. Going into play Tuesday, Sept. 20, the Lady Bucs were 3-1 in section 3 of 1A and set for a battle with the previously 2-2 Brentwood Spartans. In each section contest this season for the Lady Bucs, the final of the match has been in straight sets and Tuesday evening was no different, only it resulted in Chartiers-Houston (3-2) falling by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-21 to Brentwood (3-2).
Bishop Canevin Crusaders Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap
Behind an early run and tremendous serving, Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic defeated Bishop Canevin 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 28-26) in a non-section tilt on Monday night at Bishop Canevin High School. The Trojanettes racked up 15 aces in the match, as five different players had at least three service winners.Sarah Parey set the tempo for CWNC with four first set aces and two of her team-high six kills in the match. Parey was responsible for the early separation between the two squads, as the Trojanettes started the match on a 10-0 run behind Parey's serves. That, combined with a young Crusaders squad making eleven unforced errors in the opening set, resulted in a 25-14 victory.
