The end of another season and the end of the four classification era in Pennsylvania also marks the final cruise on the 2015 Road to Hershey this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We continue our ride on the Road to Hershey on a bust first full week of December this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We follow the two remaining 2015 WPIAL champions in Aliquippa on Friday and Pittsburgh Central Catholic on Saturday as they play in the PIAA Semifinals state football playoffs. The state basketball playoffs head into rounds two and three while the high school hockey postseason heads into the giving up The Cup this week on the MSA Sports Network. We have Second Round and Quarterfinals action in the PIAA Basketball Playoffs along with Semifinals and Championship play from the PIHL Penguins Cup high school hockey playoffs. WPIAL a Perfect 9-for-9 in PIAA Wrestling AAA Finals
The WPIAL came into the finals of the PIAA Championships with the opportunity to win at least nine gold medals. After the night was done, the WPIAL swept through every weight class to have nine WPIAL wrestlers come home as state champions. {Left: Waynesburg's A.C. Six WPIAL Class AA Wrestlers Win PIAA Titles

It was a golden day for the WPIAL in the AA PIAA Championships, as nearly half of the state champions were from District 7. The WPIAL had eight wrestlers take the mats in seven weight classes in the hopes of becoming a state champion, and six of those eight wrestlers were victorious. {Left: Derry's George Phillippi, who won his second state title, received the trophy as Outstanding Wrestler of the PIAA Class AA tournament}
PIAA Individual Wrestling Results – Day Two Recap
The AA PIAA Championships started with a lot of excitement on Friday. That was because Jefferson Morgan freshman Gavin Teasdale, who was 43-0 coming into Friday, almost seen his perfect season flash before his eyes. Teasdale was leading Jaret Lane of Southern Columbia 8-3 in the second period. That is when Lane hit a headlock on Teasdale. Fortunately for Teasdale, it was late in the second period, where he only had to bridge off of his back for roughly 20 seconds. After two periods, it was 8-8.Scholastic Notebook – 03/06/2015

Chassidy Omogrosso is Blackhawk’s Energizer bunny. The senior guard on the Blackhawk girls basketball team seemingly never stops on the court. Her motor is stuck on overdrive. While Comcast has bundle deals for cable television, Blackhawk has a bundle full of energy in Omogrosso. Omogrosso’s “run” through the recent WPIAL tournament was one to behold. She was close to unstoppable in the Class AAA playoffs, leading the Cougars to a second consecutive WPIAL title last Saturday at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center. No one has records for what is the greatest playoff run – scoring wise – for WPIAL girls basketball. But Omogrosso has to be somewhere near the top.

The WPIAL opened the AAA PIAA Championships by showing why they are the strongest region in the state. They opened the Preliminary round by having their fourth place qualifiers go 9-5, while their third place qualifiers went 8-1. After winning back to back WPIAL and PIAA Team Championships, Franklin Regional flexed their muscles at Penn Hills on Saturday night. The Panthers would become the Southwest Region individual team champions thanks to four wrestlers winning gold and six total wrestlers advancing to next weeks PIAA Championships.2015 PIAA Southwest Wrestling Regional Results
The top Class AA wrestlers around Southwestern Pennsylvania spent Friday and Saturday in Canonsburg doing battle for the top five spots in the upcoming PIAA Class AA Individual Wrestling Championships. Here are the results from Canon-McMillan High School.
WPIAL Class AAA Individual Wrestling – Day Two Recap
After a calm day on Thursday at Penn Hills for the AAA WPIAL individual Championships, the wrestling action heated up on Friday. A number of upsets occurred in the quarterfinals, with the biggest coming at 126 pounds, where number one seed Mike Heinl of Shaler dropped a 3-1 decision to Hempfield freshman Luke Kemerer. Meanwhile, a pair of number two seeds dropped decisions on Friday to fall into the consolations. At 106 pounds, Logan Macri of Canon McMillan was unable to pickup an escape on Job Chisko of Penn Trafford in the third period to fall 3-2.
WPIAL Class AAA Individual Wrestling – Day One Recap

The biggest news from the first day of the AAA WPIAL individual Championships happened before any wrestlers even touched the mat. That was when news broke that the top seed at 126 pounds, Gus Solomon of Franklin Regional, would scratch from the tournament. Solomon, who was the top ranked wrester in the state at 126 pounds, will be out the remainder of the postseason due to a shoulder injury. The other big scratch came at 106 pounds where Daniel Florentino of Peters Township, who was the number four seed, will not wrestle in the tournament.This Week on the MSA Sports Network – 02/23/2015

2015 WPIAL Class AA Individual Wrestling Championship Results

It was a magical weekend for South Fayette and not just because they got the opportunity to host the AA WPIAL individual Championships. It was thanks to their 160 pound senior who made history on Saturday. Jared Walker became the 25th wrestler in WPIAL history to become a four time WPIAL Champion, as he knocked off Jason Stay of Beth Center 3-1. For his achievement, Walker was named the Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. In addition to Walker, South Fayette also had their 138 pounder Mike Carr win his second WPIAL title by defeating Evan Myers of Southmoreland 7-1.
