The WPIAL boys volleyball season begins Friday, and in advance of the opening matches and tournaments, the Western PA Volleyball Coaches Association on Monday released its preseason top 10 polls for both Class 2A and Class 3A.

North Allegheny, last year’s Class 3A runner-up and the owner of 22 WPIAL boys volleyball titles, opens as the No. 1 Class 3A team.

Seneca Valley and Butler, semifinalists last year, check in at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, followed by Pine-Richland, Norwin, Penn-Trafford, Canon-McMillan, Latrobe, Central Catholic and Hempfield.

Shaler, last year’s WPIAL Class 3A champion, dropped down to Class 2A for the next two-year cycle, and the Titans are the favorite at No. 1 in Class 2A.

WPIAL Class 2A semifinalist and state qualifier Ambridge, and 2024 Class 2A champion Mars, are ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.

Thomas Jefferson, which reached the Class 2A semifinals last year, is No. 4. South Fayette, Seton LaSalle, North Catholic, Derry, Hopewell and Montour round out the Class 2A top 10.

Each week throughout the season, all 45 boys volleyball head coaches will have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week.
