Franklin Regional seniors Matt Busche and Tyrese Kohlman earned bronze medals at the PIAA Class AAA track and field championships May 26 at Shippensburg.
Busche, the WPIAL 800-meter champion, placed third at the state meet, but his time didn't match the 1-minute, 53.31-second effort he ran at Baldwin. His best time at Seth Grove Stadium was 1:54.66 in the finals.
“I'm pleased,” Busche said. “The competition was tough and the pace was fast.”
He finished behind Pottsville senior Collin Ebling (1:53.59) and Ephrata sophomore Tyler Shue (1:53.88).
Kohlman was sort of a surprise with his third-place finish (22.31), just ahead of Hempfield senior Eudel Moreta (22.37). He finished behind Harry S. Truman senior Sayyid Saunders (21.40) and Neshaminy junior Savion Hebron (22.01).
Franklin Regional senior Jacob Shedd competed in two events — the long jump and triple jump.
He jumped 13 spots to place seventh in the triple jump. He was in the first flight and jumped a personal best 45 feet, 9½ inches. His previous best was 44-6¾. In the finals he was hoping to reach more than 46 feet, but he fouled on all three of his jumps.
“I missed by a quarter inch on two of the jumps,” Shedd said. “I was happy that I placed.”
Franklin Regional's Rachel Todero competed in the triple jump and jumped 35-5. Her previous best jump was 35-4.
The Panthers' Tiffany Jolayemi competed in the discus and threw 113-6. She threw 114-6 at Baldwin.
