High school football roundup for Sept. 14, 2018: No. 4 OLSH routs No. 5 Rochester

Tyler Bradley threw for 350 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 4 OLSH to a 37-8 victory over No. 5 Rochester (3-1, 1-1) in a Class A Big Seven Conference game Friday night.

Rico Tate caught five passes for 138 yards and teammate Justin Walsh scored on a 24-yard reception and a 46-yard interception return for the Chargers (4-0, 3-0).

Class 6A

Pine-Richland 63, Butler 0 — In Class 6A, top-ranked Pine-Richland (3-1, 2-0) scored 35 points in the first quarter on way to winning big over Butler (0-4, 0-2). Ryan Geyer ran for 90 yards and three touchdowns and Luke Meckler added scoring runs of 45 and 35 yards.

Seneca Valley 17, Mt. Lebanon 14 — Gabe Lawson ran for one touchdown and hit Luke Smith with a 37-yard scoring pass to lead No. 5 Seneca Valley (3-1, 2-1) to the win against No. 3 Mt. Lebanon (2-2, 2-1). Seth Morgan threw touchdown passes to Carter Davidson and Tim Walters in the loss.

Class 5A

Baldwin 48, Moon 42 — In the Allegheny 8 Conference, Mason Stahl threw for 326 yards and five touchdowns to lead Baldwin (3-1, 1-1) to victory at Moon (1-3, 0-1). Jarren Kelly caught six passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns while teammate Angelo Priore ran for 134 yards and a 76-yard TD. Christian Tanner scored touchdowns on a 63-yard interception return and an 18-yard reception for Moon.

Peters Township 42, West Allegheny 28 — Logan Pfeuffer threw for 199 yards and two touchdowns, Ryan Magiske rushed for 105 yards and two scores, and Josh Casilli caught seven passes for 135 yards and two scores as No. 5 Peters Township (3-1, 2-1) topped West Allegheny (2-1, 2-1). Drevon Baldwin had two touchdowns and 144 receiving yards for West Allegheny.

Upper St. Clair 16, Woodland Hills 14 — No. 4 Upper St. Clair’s defense scored three times in the third quarter and its special teams blocked a 29-yard field goal attempt to end the game in its Allegheny 8 Conference win at Woodland Hills (0-4, 0-3). Jason Sweeney and Nate Ripley scored on interception and fumble returns, respectively, while the Panthers also added a safety. Gavin Gurreri-Judson threw for 103 yards and a touchdown for the Wolverines.

Kiski Area 37, Fox Chapel 0 — Ryne Wallace passed for 390 yards and five touchdowns as the Cavaliers (3-1, 2-1) rolled to a Class 5A Northern Conference victory. Jack Colecchi finished with 217 yards receiving and touchdowns of 39 and 71 yards, Troy Kuhn caught scores of 72 and 10 yards and Tracey Moore added a 41-yard touchdown reception. Shane Susnak passed for 180 yards for Fox Chapel (0-4, 0-3).

North Hills 3, Hampton 0 — Dan Wagner’s 23-yard field goal held up as North Hills (4-0, 3-0) ran by Hampton (1-3, 0-2) in a close Allegheny Eight Conference matchup. Sophomore Tyler Tomasic stepped in for injured star running back Tyler Brennan to rush for 144 yards on 30 carries to lead the Indians to the win. Quarterback Max Obenrader had 107 yards passing for the Talbots.

Class 4A

Belle Vernon 49, Laurel Highlands 7 — Mason Pascoe ran for 117 yards and a touchdown as No. 4 Belle Vernon (2-1, 1-1) beat Laurel Highlands (2-2, 0-1) in the Big 8 Conference. The Leopards’ Jarod Hartman threw for 101 yards and a touchdown and ran for another TD.

Thomas Jefferson 49, Indiana 14 — Max Shaw ran for 132 yards and three touchdowns to lead top-ranked Thomas Jefferson (3-0, 3-0) over Indiana (1-3, 1-2) in the Big 8 Conference. Shane Stump threw for 196 yards and two touchdowns while Dan Deabner caught five passes for 113 yards and a TD.

Beaver 21, New Castle 13 — In the Northwest 8 Conference, Brodie List threw for 118 yards and a touchdown and ran for 182 yards and a TD to lead Beaver (3-1, 2-1) to victory over New Castle (1-3, 1-2).

Blackhawk 48, Ambridge 6 — No. 5 Blackhawk (4-0, 3-0) held Ambridge (1-3, 0-1) to only 64 total yards and three first downs in its Northwest 8 Conference win. Blackhawk’s Chance Liptak completed all six of his passes for 207 yards and four touchdowns. The Cougars, who gained 469 yards on offense, let at the half, 41-0.

Knoch 28, Highlands 21 — Matt Goodlin had a 7-yard touchdown run with nine minutes remaining for what proved to be the winning score for Knoch (1-3, 1-2) in a Northwest 8 victory. Goodlin finished with 152 yards rushing and two touchdowns, and quarterback Chase Mullen had 125 yards rushing and a score. Seth Cohen passed for 261 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for Highlands (0-4, 0-2).

Class 3A

Burrell 61, Uniontown 6 — Backed by senior running back Luke Kastelic’s 304-yard, four-touchdown performance Burrell got up big early and never let up as the Bucs rolled past Uniontown to pick up their first win of the season. Burrell (1-3, 1-2) quarterback Logan Phillips went 2 of 4 for 144 yards and one touchdown.

Elizabeth Forward 27, Freeport 21 — The Warriors (3-0, 3-0) rallied from a nine-point deficit in the second half to score a victory in a Big East 3A matchup. Zach Benedek threw for 157 yards and completed touchdowns of 36 and 46 yards to Nathan Alberts. Benedek also rushed for 115 yards and a score, and Andrew Smith kicked field goals of 30 and 25 yards. Austin Romanchak rushed for 96 yards and a score and added 91 yards through the air for Freeport (0-3, 0-3).

Hopewell 12, Waynesburg 7 — Garrett Nicol and Kenneth Hairston scored Hopewell’s touchdowns in the second quarter as the Vikings (2-2, 1-1) won on the road at Waynesburg (1-3, 0-2) in Tri-County West play. Caleb Shriver hit Luke Robinson with a 25-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter for Waynesburg’s touchdown.

Keystone Oaks 42, South Park 7 — Logan Shrubb threw for 170 yards and a touchdown and ran for 100 yards and three TDs to lead No. 3 Keystone Oaks (4-0, 2-0) to the Tri-County West win at South Park (0-3, 0-2). Michael Daure added 146 rushing yards and scored three times for the Golden Eagles, giving him 19 touchdowns on the season.

Class 2A

East Allegheny 34, Apollo-Ridge 7 — Dan Kasmier ran for 100 yards and threw for 123 more as the Wildcats (2-2, 1-1) won their first Allegheny Conference game. East Allegheny’s defense held the Vikings (2-2, 1-1) to just two first downs in the second half. Alex Gamble had two receptions for 71 yards for the Vikings.

Shady Side Academy 56, Steel Valley 36 — Skyy Moore ran for four touchdowns and threw for four as Shady Side Academy ended Steel Valley’s regular-season winning streak at 22 games with an Allegheny Conference win. Moore scored on runs of 2, 15, 7 and 31 yards and threw touchdowns of 72 and 46 yards to Dino Tomlin and 35 and 30 yards to Billy Frolich. Todd Hill ran for three scores in a losing effort.

Beth-Center 52, Southmoreland 26 — Dominic Fundy ran for 167 yards and a 70-yard touchdown and returned an interception 29 yards for another score to lead Beth-Center (4-0, 3-0) over Southmoreland (2-2, 1-2) in the Century Conference. Dylan Dingle added 110 rushing yards on only five carries and scored on a 46-yard run and a 15-yard reception. Zack Cernuto threw for 152 yards and two touchdowns for Southmoreland.

Charleroi 56, Frazier 7 — In the Century Conference, Geno Pellegrini completed 8 of 9 passes for 148 yards and four touchdowns to lead No. 3 Charleroi (3-0, 2-0) to the win against visiting Frazier (1-3, 1-2). Cole Hunter Perry ran for 133 yards and a 55-yard touchdown while adding a receiving TD and Brayden Mihalcin rushed for 120 yards and scored twice.

McGuffey 55, Carmichaels 0 — In the Century Conference, Christian Clutter scored on runs of 26 and 56 yards and on a 22-yard interception return to lead McGuffey (4-0, 2-0) to the shutout against Carmichaels (0-3, 0-3). McGuffey scored 35 points in the first quarter.

Washington 55, Brownsville 0 — In the Century Conference, Zack Swartz threw for 190 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 128 yards and two TDs to lead No. 4 Washington (3-1, 1-1) to the shutout over Brownsville (0-4, 0-2). He also set the school’s passing touchdown record with 40 career TDs. Dan Walker caught five passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns and ran 23 yards for another TD.

Mohawk 27, Freedom 21 — In the Midwestern Conference, Braydon Cameron ran for 150 yards and a touchdown as Mohawk (3-1, 2-1) beat No. 5 Freedom (3-1, 2-1). Zach Rosa threw for 168 yards and three touchdowns for Freedom, which had outscored its opponents 145-6.

Neshannock 14, Ellwood City 6 — Anthony Dovodio scored both of Neshannock’s touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Lancers (2-2, 2-1) defeated Ellwood City (0-4, 0-2) in Midwestern Conference play. Rick Pitrelli scored Ellwood City’s only touchdown in the third quarter on a 5-yard run.

Riverside 24, Western Beaver 0 — LeMarcus Cleckley ran for 100 yards and two touchdowns as Riverside (2-1, 2-1) shut out Western Beaver (2-2, 1-1) in the Midwestern Conference.

Brentwood 28, Fort Cherry 7 — John Milcic threw for 178 yards and two touchdowns as Brentwood (2-2, 1-2) defeated Fort Cherry (2-2, 1-2) in the Three Rivers Conference. Aiden Wardzinski added touchdowns on a 16-yard run and a 39-yard interception return.

South Allegheny 21, Seton LaSalle 7 — Brandon Nolder threw for 151 yards and two touchdowns as South Allegheny (3-1, 2-0) defeated Seton LaSalle (1-3, 1-2) in the Three Rivers Conference. The game was tied heading into the fourth quarter before Antonio Epps’ 7-yard scoring run put the Gladiators in the lead for good.

South Side Beaver 54, Carlynton 33 — Jake Botkin rushed for 323 yards and two touchdowns to lead South Side Beaver (4-0, 2-0) to the Three Rivers Conference win at Carlynton (1-3, 0-2). Aden Almashy threw three touchdown passes to Brandon Barber in the win. Carlynton’s Will McClendan answered South Side’s first two TDs by returning the ensuing kickoffs 90 and 88 yards, respectively, for touchdowns.

Class A

Sto-Rox 58, Cornell 6 — Eric Wilson threw for 350 yards and six touchdowns to lead Sto-Rox (2-2, 2-1) to the Big 7 win against Cornell (2-1, 1-1). Amahd Pack caught nine passes for 172 yards and two touchdowns while Vince Eggleton caught two scoring passes and ran for another and Marcus Upshaw added two receiving touchdowns.

Bentworth 24, Chartiers-Houston 21 — Owen Petrisek’s 16-yard run with 3:07 left in the game gave Bentworth (2-2, 1-1) the Tri-County South win against Chartiers-Houston (1-3, 1-2). Trent Cavanaugh scored Bentworth’s other touchdowns on runs of 30 and 3 yards and on a 24-yard pass from Shawn Dziak. Seth Dunn ran for two touchdowns in the loss.

Aliquippa 62, Montour 0 — Class 3A No. 1 Aliquippa (4-0) held Class 4A Montour (0-4) to minus-17 yards of offense in its nonconference win. Eli Kosanovich threw for 251 yards and six touchdowns for the Quips, who have outscored opponents 224-6.

Armstrong 48, Albert Gallatin 0 — Jesse Helper returned the opening kickoff 91 yards for a touchdown as Armstrong (3-1) scored 28 points in the first quarter on way to blanking Albert Gallatin (0-4) in nonconference play. Isaac Ridinger added three rushing touchdowns.

Avonworth 35, New Brighton 7 — Derek Johncour completed 22 of 28 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns to lead Avonworth (3-1) to a nonconference win against New Brighton (1-3). Johncour has thrown for 1,208 yards and 11 touchdowns this season. Drew Harper caught six passes for 127 yards and a touchdown for Avonworth. Jackson Hall threw for 129 yards and a TD for New Brighton.

Bethel Park 42, Shaler 7 — Jehvonn Lewis rushed for four touchdowns as Bethel Park (2-1) beat Shaler (2-2) in nonconference play. Anthony Chiccitt threw for 138 yards for Bethel Park. Darin Mizgorski tossed for 150 yards for Shaler.

Bishop Canevin 34, Springdale 14 — Jonathan Ruffing and Keshawn Harris combined for 262 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead Bishop Canevin (2-2, 0-1) to a nonconference victory. Springdale (0-3, 0-1) running back Christian Vokes had 125 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Burgettstown 41, Summit Academy 0 — Shane Kemper ran for 101 yards and a touchdown as Burgettstown (3-0) blanked Summit Academy (0-4) in nonconference play.

Jeannette 55, Avella 7 — Marcus Barnes caught a 40-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 54 yards for another score as Class A No. 1 Jeannette earned a win over Avella (1-3) in Class A nonconference play.

Isaiah Winters added two rushing touchdowns, while Jimmy Sanders threw for two more scores for the Jayhawks (4-0), who led 42-0 at halftime.

North Catholic 14, Central Valley 13 — Eamon Straub’s 1-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter lifted Class 3A No. 2 North Catholic (4-0) to the nonconference win at Central Valley (0-4). Zack Rocco threw for 187 yards and a touchdown and ran for 106 yards to lead North Catholic’s offense.

Shenango 34, Serra Catholic 33 — Aidan Johnston’s second field goal of the day — a 38-yarder in the fourth quarter — lifted Shenango (1-3) to the nonconference win against Serra Catholic (2-2). Reis Watkins threw for 203 yards and two touchdowns for Shenango. Khalil Smith led Serra Catholic’s offense with 137 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The Eagles’ Matt Ulishney added touchdowns on a 95-yard kickoff return and a 40-yard interception return.
