High school roundup for April 13, 2019: Seneca Valley tops North Allegheny

Josh McLean hit a solo home-run, walked and scored two runs to lead Seneca Valley to a 6-3 win over North Allegheny (5-4, 2-1) in a Section 1-6A baseball game Saturday.

After allowing three runs in the top of the fifth, Seneca Valley scored four runs in the bottom of the inning. Cory Greiner earned the win for Seneca Valley (7-2, 2-1) after going six innings and allowing three runs, striking out six and walking three.

Norwin 6, Hempfield 5 (8 inn.) — Jayden Walker had three hits and four RBIs to lead Norwin (6-2, 2-1) to a Section 2-6A win over Hempfield (6-5, 1-2) in an eight-inning game. Mike Hosni picked up two doubles and three RBIs for Hempfield.

Thomas Jefferson 14, Elizabeth Forward 4Thomas Jefferson had six doubles in a win over Elizabeth Forward (6-3, 3-2) in Section 3-4A action. Mike Huber led Thomas Jefferson (6-3, 4-1) with three hits, including a double. Dylan Mallozzi, Dom Pearson, Ethan Daerr, Josh Reynolds and Andy Kalup all hit doubles in the win. Hunter Saxon and Nate Homa hit doubles for Elizabeth Forward.

North Catholic 8, Freedom 0 — Dom Prentice and Andrew Allen each went 2 for 3 with an RBI as North Catholic (2-6, 2-2) shut out Freedom (5-4, 3-1) in Section 2-3A. Max Totzke picked up the win, combining with two relievers to scatter eight hits. Kevin Lawrence went 3 for 4 for Freedom, which had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Mohawk 4, Riverside 2 — Joe Leslie hit a double and drove in two runs to lead Mohawk (6-2, 3-1) to a Section 2-2A win over Riverside (4-4, 2-3). Brett Pitzer earned the win on the mound as Mohawk scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Eden Christian 6, Rochester 5 (8 inn.) — In Section 1-A, Luke Vittone went 3 for 4 and scored three runs as Eden Christian (6-2, 3-1) beat Rochester (2-4, 2-3) in eight innings. Markus Williams knocked in two runs and also picked up the win.

Vincentian Academy 7, Greensburg Central Catholic 6 — After entering the bottom of the seventh inning down 6-5, Vincentian Academy (3-0, 3-0) scored two runs to defeat Greensburg Central Catholic (3-6, 2-1) in Section 3-A action. Danny Morgano finished with three hits and one RBI, while James Lutz hit a triple and Matt Soller hit a double for Vincentian Academy.

Union 18, Ellwood City 3 (5 inn.) — Nine different players collected at least one RBI as Union (6-2) defeated Ellwood City (2-6) in a fine-inning nonsection game. Seth Pinkerton went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, while Nate Meeks, Tyler Benedict and Nick Pasquarello also added two RBIs each. The win was Union’s fifth in a row.

Softball

Indiana 7, Highlands 4Indiana’s Haleigh Zimmerman gave up two earned runs and struck out five in her complete-game victory over Highlands (3-4, 2-3) in Section 1-4A. Zimmerman also knocked in two runs, as did her sister, Sara, and teammate, Cleo McMahan. Indiana (6-3, 3-2) has won three straight.

Neshannock 6, Laurel 5 — Margret Russo and Jesse Fehrs each had home runs as Neshannock (5-2, 5-2) held on to beat Laurel (9-1, 6-1) in Section 4-2A. Olivia Lombardo and Kayla Ruperto each had three hits for Laurel while teammate Kaylee Winthrow homered.
