High school roundup for April 6, 2019: Mt. Pleasant tops Connellsville in 12th inning

Autumn Shogan hit a three-run homer in the top of the 12th inning to lead Mt. Pleasant to a 7-4 nonsection win at Connellsville (3-3) on Saturday afternoon.
Hannah Gnibus sent the game to extra innings for Mt. Pleasant (5-0) with a two-run homer in the seventh inning. Carolyn Alincic picked up the win, pitching the final nine innings and striking out 20.
Latrobe 1, Yough 0 (10 inn.) — Jordan Tallman gave up two hits while striking out 21 in a 10-inning, complete-game nonsection win over Yough (4-3). Her sister, Jenna, drove in the winning run with a double in the bottom of the 10th. Emily Schmucker scored the winning run for Latrobe (7-0), and teammate Jordan Novak went 3 for 4.
Belle Vernon 7, Steel Valley 1 — Sophie Godzak threw a complete-game three-hitter as Belle Vernon (4-5) beat Steel Valley (1-5) in nonsection play. Godzak struck out nine and gave up an unearned run. Ashley Joll had three hits and an RBI, and teammate Mekenzie Sokol had two hits and two RBIs.
Frazier 20, Monessen 0 (3 inn.) — Savannah Berklovich went 4 for 4 with four RBIs as Frazier (5-1) scored 15 runs in the second inning in its three-inning, nonsection win against Monessen (0-4). The win was Frazier’s second straight 20-0 victory.
Ambridge 6, West Allegheny 5 — Lexi Peters went 2 for 4 with a solo home run as Ambridge (3-1) beat West Allegheny (3-2) in nonsection play. Britney Wilson went 3 for 3 with two triples and a double for West Allegheny.
Laurel 9, Western Beaver 0 — Laurel’s Kayla Ruperto struck out 17 and walked one on way to tossing a no-hitter against Western Beaver (0-6) in nonsection play. Ruperto also went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Mackenzie Latess went 3 for 3 and drove in four runs for Laurel (7-0), which has outscored its opponents this season, 79-4.
Mohawk 13, New Castle 3 — In a five-inning game, Alyssa Young went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs as Mohawk (3-2) scored eight first-inning runs on way to defeating New Castle (1-2) in nonsection play. Maddie Clark and Trinity Voss also went 3 for 4 at the plate with Voss picking up two RBIs. Voss also struck out eight to pick up the win.
West Mifflin 6, Plum 5 — Emma Mackulin drove in Izzy Farmer with the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning as West Mifflin (8-1) came back to defeat Plum (5-1) in nonsection play. Farmer went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while teammate Allyssa Schmidt added a home run. Jillian Durst went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs for Plum, which led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Belle Vernon 9, Charleroi 3 — After a three-run first inning, Belle Vernon (2-2) did not let go of the lead. Andrew Sokol went 3 for 3 with a double as well as earning the win on the mound.
Chartiers-Houston 12, Greensburg CC 1 (5 inn.) — In a nonsection game, Jimmy Sadler went 3 for 4 as Chartiers-Houston (3-2) defeated Greensburg Central Catholic (1-5) in five innings. Dustin Weiser drove in three runs for Chartiers-Houston.
Hempfield 3, Butler 0 — Phil Fox recorded eight strikeouts and allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings to guide Hempfield (5-3) to a shutout victory over Butler (1-5) in nonsection action. The Spartans scored all three runs in the first inning.
Norwin 6, Moon 3 — The Knights scored five unanswered runs after trailing 3-1 through two innings against Moon (4-1) in nonsection play. Owen Sabol and Aidan Shephard each hit doubles for Norwin (4-1).
Freedom 7, Beaver Falls 0 — Noah Henderson gave up one hit and struck out nine over six innings as Freedom (3-3, 1-0) shut out Beaver Falls (1-4, 0-2) in a Section 2-3A win. Henderson and teammate Zach Rosa each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Dayln Brickner picked up Beaver Falls’ only hit with a third-inning single.
Hopewell 13, Ellwood City 2 (6 inn.) — Enzo Palumbo went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Hopewell (4-2, 2-0) in a Section 2-3A win. The Vikings scored eight runs in the sixth inning.
Kiski Area 4, Freeport 2 — The Cavaliers’ Zach Morrill hit a two-run double and sparked a three-run third inning as Kiski Area spoiled Freeport coach Ed Carr’s 40th birthday by picking up the nonsection win. Matt Skelly picked up the win from hill for Kiski Area (2-3), striking out four batters and giving up one hit over two innings. Ryne Wallace also doubled twice for the Cavaliers. Freeport (4-3) pitcher Bradyn Clark got the loss after giving up four runs, two earned, and seven hits through 5 1/3 innings.
Laurel Highlands 4, Montour 2 — Andino Vecchiolla went 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead Laurel Highlands (5-0, 2-0) past Montour (4-6, 0-2) for a Section 3-5A win. Garrett Myers picked up the win for the Mustangs, recording six strikeouts, two walks and an earned run in six innings. Dale Fleck and Dylan Deutsch each drove in a run for the Spartans.
Mohawk 7, South Side Beaver 1 — Tyler Cummings allowed no earned runs and recorded four strikeouts to earn a Section 2-2A win for Mohawk (5-1, 2-0).
Quaker Valley 5, North Hills 1 — Isaiah Piatt and Jacob Commens each knocked in two runs for Quaker Valley (4-0) in a nonsection win. Commens also recorded the win after pitching 3 2/3 innings. Aidan Tumpa struck out eight Quakers in 3 2/3 innings in a losing effort for North Hills (1-5).
