Seneca Valley star Lexie Hames was at it again Tuesday, throwing a complete-game one-hitter with 20 strikeouts and going 3 for 5 with two home runs and four RBIs at the plate to lead the Raiders to a 12-1 win over Armstrong in nonsection softball.
Bella Gross also homered and Lauren Folino knocked in three runs for Seneca Valley (1-0). Jordyn Klingensmith doubled for Armstrong (0-1).
Ambridge 12, Northgate 0 – Winning pitcher Giana Georgakis threw four shutout innings, struck out 12, gave up one hit and doubled and drove in a pair of runs to power Ambridge (1-0) to a nonsection win. Mackenzie Keber went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Macy Smith doubled and drove in two runs and Caylin Fedora tripled and knocked in a run for the Bridgers. Johna Abramowicz doubled for Northgate (1-1).
Apollo-Ridge 6, Kiski Area 4 – Madison Butler went 2 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, Jocelyn Snyder drove in a pair of runs and Mikaila Ditty got the win as Apollo-Ridge (1-1) defeated Kiski Area (0-1) in nonsection play. Chloe Hutchinson hit a solo home run and Samantha Matson doubled for the Cavaliers.
Avonworth 12, Montour 2 – Reese Long drove in three runs, Alexandra Savatt went 3 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs and winning pitcher Sydney Savatt doubled and knocked in a run as Avonworth (1-0) won a nonsection contest against Montour (0-1). Ali Lenart plated a run for the Antelopes. Hailey Staub and Emily McClean each went 2 for 3 for the Spartans.
California 13, Avella 6 – Kayla Saeli doubled twice and knocked in four runs, Gabbi Lucinski went 4 for 4 with four RBIs and Olivia Lenkey earned the win for California (1-1) in nonsection play. Emily Buel doubled and knocked in a pair of runs while Haleigh Rush and Taylor Shirley each doubled and drove in a run for Avella (0-2).
Claysburg-Kimmel 2, Ligonier Valley 1 – Winning pitcher Isabella Paris struck out eight and Savanna Crissman tripled and homered to lead Claysburg-Kimmel to a nonsection win. Marlee Miller singled and doubled and Allison Heffelfinger tripled for Ligonier Valley (0-1).
Derry 4, Belle Vernon 3 – Winning pitcher Haylee Myers struck out nine, collected two hits and drove in two runs as Derry (1-0) scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earn a nonsection win. Sophia Doherty homered for the Trojans. Mailey Hayes homered and Bella Williams singled, doubled and drove in a run for Belle Vernon (1-1).
Ellwood City 5, South Side 0 – Winning pitcher Amber McQuiston tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing one hit and striking out six while doubling in a run to lead Ellwood City (1-1) to a nonsection win. Alexis Beck doubled and drove in two runs for the Wolverines. Kenidi Cook singled for South Side (2-1).
Freeport 9, Karns City 4 – Lauren Clark had two doubles, a home run and five RBIs as Freeport (2-0) scored six runs in the top of the eighth to pick up a nonsection win. Addyson Caruso drove in a pair of runs for the Yellowjackets. Addison Burrows had three hits for Karns City.
Gateway 17, Woodland Hills 0 – Malia Clemens went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Rylee Beavin tripled twice and knocked in two runs to lead Gateway (1-0) to a nonsection win over Woodland Hills (0-1). Samantha Robi and Taylor Magil each doubled and drove in a run while winning pitcher Meghan Marsh allowed no hits and struck out five in three innings.
Greensburg Salem 4, Jeannette 0 – Alle Scarpa threw a two-hit shutout with 18 strikeouts to lead Greensburg Salem (1-0) to a nonsection win. Marley Perrone singled and doubled and Hannah Olbeter had two hits and an RBI for the Golden Lions. Grace Stein struck out 13 and Raylyn Gallik had two hits for Jeannette (1-1).
Hempfield 5, Shaler 1 – Josephine Cline doubled and drove in a run and Ella Berkebile knocked in a pair while winning pitcher Riley Miller allowed one run and struck out six in five innings as Hempfield (3-0) earned a nonsection win. Jayla Antomachi went 3 for 3 with a solo home run while Emily Spears and Alyssa Schaffold each doubled for Shaler (0-1).
Highlands 15, Leechburg 1 – Carrah Scardina went 2 for 3 with three RBIs and winning pitcher Madison Gorney singled and drove in two runs for Highlands (1-0) in a nonsection victory. Ava Ferretti doubled for Leechburg (0-1).
Jefferson-Morgan 6, Frazier 4 – Brooklynne Snyder, Gabby Marmie and Addyson Teagarden each knocked in a run while Emilee Bazzoli picked up the win for Jefferson-Morgan (1-0) in a nonsection matchup. Addison Hiles plated two runs and Grace Vaughn doubled and drove in a run for Frazier (0-1).
Mars 11, Southmoreland 9 – Allie Walukiewicz tripled and drove in three runs for Mars (1-0) in a nonsection win over Southmoreland (0-2).
Mercer 6, Laurel 3 – Winning pitcher Angie Eakman struck out 10 in seven innings, doubled twice and knocked in two runs to propel Mercer (1-0) to a nonsection win over Laurel (1-1). Lexy Krol went 2 for 3 with a home run and a pair of RBIs for the Spartans.
McKeesport 18, Steel Valley 9 – Winning pitcher Ryenn Thomas struck out 13 and went 2 for 2 at the plate with a pair of RBIs as McKeesport (1-0) defeated Steel Valley (0-1) in nonsection play. Joylin Scheaffer tripled and drove in two runs and Kendal Bercik plated two runs for the Tigers. Keyauna Thompson went 3 for 5 with an RBI for Steel Valley.
North Hills 12, Baldwin 2 – Addyson Wrigley went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs, Mackenzie Roskwitalski tripled and drove in four more runs and Alexa Edmunds doubled and drove in a pair as North Hills (1-0) rolled to a nonsection win. Mackenzie Bowen tripled for Baldwin (2-1). Abigail Sutton earned the win for North Hills.
Penn Hills 10, Carrick 6 – Winning pitcher Isabella DeCarlo struck out 15 and helped her own cause with a single and two RBIs as Penn Hills (1-1) beat Carrick (0-1) in nonsection play. London Seymire tripled and drove in three runs while Julia Gable and Brooklyn Best each had an RBI for the Indians.
Penn-Trafford 5, Thomas Jeffferson 1 – Lorryn Sepe singled and drove in a pair of runs while winning pitcher Allyson Paulone struck out three and gave up one run in a complete game as Penn-Trafford (1-1) beat Thomas Jefferson (0-1) in a nonsection contest. Allie Chalovich doubled for the Jaguars.
South Allegheny 16, East Allegheny 0 – Carrera Conley and Emma Jackson each knocked in three runs while winning pitcher Ava Brown doubled and drove in a run and Taylor Bowman tripled and knocked in another as South Allegheny (1-0) blanked East Allegheny (0-1) in a nonsection matchup.
South Park 14, Ringgold 0 – Winning pitcher Sydney Sekely tossed three shutout innings and struck out nine while going 3 for 4 at the plate with a double and two RBIs as South Park (1-0) beat Ringgold (0-2) in nonsection play. Ally Wilder smacked a solo home run and Mady Wilder doubled in a run for the Eagles.

Ambridge 13, Bishop Canevin 0 – Winning pitcher Ashton Thompson struck out 10 in 5⅓ shutout innings and Eli Hartman tossed two-thirds of an inning as Ambridge (1-0) no-hit Bishop Canevin (0-1) in a nonsection affair. Adam Fernandez hit a two-run home run while Liam Baker and Jonathan Janicki each smacked a three-run homer and AJ Gerace drove in three runs for the Bridgers.
Armstrong 6, Freeport 0 – Brayden Wright threw four no-hit innings with six strikeouts and helped his own cause with a double and two RBIs for Armstrong (1-0) in a nonsection win over Freeport (0-1). Hunter Reed went 3 for 3 for the River Hawks.
Beaver 11, Chartiers Valley 4 – Ty Butler went 3 for 5 with an RBI as Beaver (1-0) got the nonsection win. Ronald Sebek homered and drove in four runs, and Tyler Kisling had three RBIs for the Bobcats. Michael Switala had three RBIs for Chartiers Valley (1-1).
Belle Vernon 14, McGuffey 0 – Parker Lind threw a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 11, to lead Belle Vernon (1-0) to a nonsection win over McGuffey (0-1). Connor Bergman singled, doubled and drove in three runs and Lucas Judy had three hits and two RBIs for the Leopards.
Brighton (Colo.) 13, Penn-Trafford 8 – Austin Waltenmatch had three hits and four runs scored to lead Brighton (Colo.) in Vero Beach, Fla. Dom Delio had four hits and two RBIs and Logan Matrisch and Ethan Septak each had three hits and an RBI for Penn-Trafford (1-1).
Chartiers-Houston 7, Carmichaels 1 – Aaron Walsh doubled and knocked in two runs, Justis Buckingham collected two hits and two RBIs and Dominic Cumer picked up the win for Chartiers-Houston (1-0) in a nonsection victory over Carmichaels (0-1).
Connellsville 13, Uniontown 2 – Matthew Firestone, Tyler McDowell and winning pitcher Gradin Hodge each drove in three runs and Grayden Gillott had two RBIs to lead Connellsville (1-0) to a nonsection win. Luke Gresh doubled and drove in a run for Uniontown (0-1).
Eden Christian 9, OLSH 2 – Winning pitcher Brett Fledman tripled and knocked in four runs while Noah Emswiler went 2 for 3 with a double, a home run and three RBIs to lead Eden Christian (2-0) to a nonsection win. Colby Lane doubled for OLSH (1-2).
Ellwood City 19, New Brighton 6 – Cameron Mills doubled and knocked in five runs, Gus Biondi went 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs and Anthony Barberio doubled as Ellwood City (2-0) scored 12 runs in the second inning to rout New Brighton (0-1) in nonsection play. Dom Pasquale doubled and drove in a run for the Lions. Nathan Kennedy picked up the win for the Wolverines.
Fox Chapel 7, Norwin 2 – Blake Krushinski singled, homered and drove in three runs and winning pitcher Jeremy Haigh threw four scoreless innings, allowing two hits, to lead Fox Chapel (1-0) to a nonsection win. Trevor Vitsas singled, doubled and drove in a run for Norwin (0-2).
Freedom 16, Fort Cherry 15 – Tommy Ward went 4 for 4 with a double, a homer and three RBIs and Xavier Robbins had three hits and three RBIs to lead Freedom (1-1) to a nonsection win. Colton Temple went 5 for 5 with a double, homer and four RBIs and Landon Trnavsky went 3 for 3 with a double, homer and three RBIs for Fort Cherry (0-1).
Gateway 16, North Hills 1 – Max Cobbs, Ryan Deselich and Roman Jennings each doubled and drove in two runs while winning pitcher Jon Saunders doubled and knocked in a run as Gateway (1-0) cruised to a nonseciton win. Austin Ellis tripled for North Hills (0-1).
Greensburg Salem 15, East Allegheny 0 – Peyton Chismar doubled, homered and drove in three runs, Tyler Martin singled, doubled, tripled and knocked in four runs and Braedon Leatherman threw three scoreless innings, striking out seven, to lead Greensburg Salem (1-0) to a nonsection win over East Allegheny (0-1).
Hillel Academy 12, Aquinas Academy 2 – Zach Itzkowitz (three RBIs) and Ashi Itzkowitz (one RBI) both doubled in a nonsection win for Hilliel Academy (2-1). Dovid Blalock went 3 for 3 and drove in three runs. Winning pitcher Ezra Goldberg struck out 10. Brendan Roney recorded two hits for Aquinas Academy (0-1).
Jefferson-Morgan 7, California 2 – Brayden Ellsworth doubled and drove in two runs in a nonsection win for Jefferson-Morgan (1-0). Deakyn Dehoet, John Woodward and Dayten Marion recorded hits, while Dehoet drove in two runs. Weston Monticelli (RBI) and Rickey Lawson each had a hit for California (0-2).
Keystone Oaks 14, Brentwood 1 – Shane Falcone had three hits, including a home run, and six RBIs to lead Keystone Oaks (1-0) to the nonsection win. Roman Keaney also homered and had three RBIs while Bryce Altenbaugh had three hits and Jake Hrivnak had a home run and drove in two runs. Michale Satler had the lone hit for Brentwood (0-2).
Mapletown 18, Clairton 8 – Coltin Halbert doubled and drove in a pair of runs, Josh Howard and winning pitcher Spencer Yeager each knocked in a run while Ashton Nesselroad went 4 for 4 with a double for Mapletown (1-0) in a nonsection win. Adonte Wiggins went 3 for 3 with three RBIs and Jeff Thompson III doubled and drove in a run for Clairton (0-1).
Pine-Richland 11, Hempfield 2 – Benjamin Husted singled, homered and drove in two runs and Sam Heckert had two doubles and two RBIs to lead Pine-Richland (1-0) to a nonsection win. Jake Waddell and Thomas Kapanowski each had three hits for the Rams. Dylan Firmstone singled, doubled and knocked in a run for Hempfield (0-2).
Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) 3, South Allegheny 1 – Josh Mesky went 1 for 2 with an RBI for South Allegheny (0-1) in a nonsection loss to Putnam Science Academy at the Ripken Experience at Myrtle Beach.
Riverside 14, Hopewell 0 – Christian Lucarelli allowed one hit and struck out nine while driving home two runs in Riverside’s (2-0) nonsection win. Dylan Meyer had two hits and three RBIs, while Sean Hayes doubled and drove in three. Drew Donovan had a hit for Hopewell (0-3).
Rochester 10, Beaver Falls 8 – Devin Woodley doubled and knocked in three runs, Andrew Miller and Braeden Signet each doubled and drove in two runs and Logan Lyons added an RBI as Rochester (1-0) beat Beaver Falls (0-1) in nonsection play. Tyson Davis doubled and drove in a pair of runs and Mark Veon went 3 for 3 and scored four runs for the Tigers. Justin Schurr earned the win for the Rams.
Seton LaSalle 7, Carrick 3 – Josh Burkholder went 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs in a nonsection win for Seton LaSalle (2-1) over Carrick (0-2). Anthony LoCastro and Roman LoNero both doubled for the Rebels.
Shaler 11, Penn Hills 0 – Ben Yeckel had two hits, a home run and two RBIs in a nonsection shutout for Shaler (1-2). Colby McGuire had three hits, while Luke Jarzynka and Joey Rispoli each had two for the Titans. Winning pitcher Sam Leo pitched three innings, allowing one hit while recording four strikeouts. Derek Nelson went 1 for 1 for Penn Hills (0-1).
Southmoreland 14, Monessen 2 – Brian Williams, Jake Govern and Camden Underwood each had three hits and Blake McLaughlin drove in three runs for Southmoreland (1-0) in a nonsection win. Winning pitcher Joe Bentz allowed one hit and struck out eight in 4⅔ innings. RJ DiEugenio had the only hit for Monessen (0-1).
Steel Valley 11, McKeesport 1 – Zach Zeffer went 2 for 2 with a home run and three RBIs, Jordan Smith went 3 for 3 with a double and winning pitcher Adam Keesecker fanned four in four innings as Steel Valley (1-0) defeated McKeesport (0-1) in a nonsection matchup. Mason Gergely had two hits for the Tigers.
Valley 12, Kiski Area 2 – Dante Taliani doubled twice and drove in five runs, Benjamin Mehalick had a single, double and two RBIs and Conrad Hoover had two hits and drove in three to lead Valley (2-0) to a nonsection win. Zach Hald doubled and drove in a run for Kiski Area (0-1).
West Allegheny 8, Central Valley 2 – Brody Malatak went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, Jake McNabb doubled and drove in two and Mason Gass picked up the win for West Allegheny (1-0) in nonsection play. Will Ciucci doubled for Central Valley (0-1).
Winchester Thurston 12, Washington 7 – Austin Lenhardt-Barley smashed a three-run home run, winning pitcher Lucas Picher doubled twice and knocked in two runs and Sam Hammons drove in two with a double as Winchester Thurston (1-0) defeated Washinton (0-3) in nonsection play. Tyler Bainer homered, doubled and finished with four RBIs and Caleb Patton homered, doubled and knocked in two for the Prexies.

Franklin Regional 6, Chartiers Valley 5 – Grant Novotny and Nicholas Renda scored two goals apiece to lead Franklin Regional to a Section 1-2A win.
Plum 16, Allderdice 1 – Connor Silliman scored six goals and Dom Colamarino added three to lead Plum to a nonsection win.
Girls lacrosse
Latrobe 9, Fairmont 6 – Aliza Yeager scored a hat trick, Ryanne Lehman produced two goals and Sarah Guinther had three assists as Latrobe defeated Fairmont in nonsection play.
Plum 8, Indiana 6 – Jess Hartley recorded a hat trick and Madi Stewart added a pair of goals to lead Plum (2-0) to a nonsection win over Indiana.
Trinity 10, Knoch 9 – Kennedy Tracey had five goals and Avery Powell, Myah Agmon, Emerson Webster, Taylor Phillips and Georgia Poach also scored to help Trinity to a nonsection win in its season opener.
