High school roundup for Nov. 30, 2024: Greensburg Central Catholic girls open season with statement win

Erica Gribble scored 27 points to lead Class 3A preseason No. 2 Greensburg Central Catholic to a 64-44 victory over Class 4A No. 1 North Catholic on Saturday at the North Allegheny tournament.
Jayla Peterson added 25 points for the Centurions (1-0), who outscored the Trojanettes 19-6 in the third quarter. Brady Wehner tallied 12 points for North Catholic (0-1).
Apollo-Ridge 63, Leechburg 15 – Led by 14 points from Mya McLain, 13 from Kyler Toland and 10 from Arianna Hughley, Apollo-Ridge (1-1) won the consolation game at the Leechburg tournament. Addie Zanotto scored 11 for the Blue Devils (0-2).
Beth-Center 51, Ligonier Valley 19 – Violet Trump scored 14 points to lead Beth-Center (1-1) to a win at the Jefferson-Morgan tournament. Sydnee Foust led Ligonier Valley (1-1) with seven points.
Burrell 57, Carrick 8 – Getting 15 points from Jules Fisher, 13 from McKenna Miller and 12 from Casey Brancato, Burrell (1-0) defeated Carrick (0-1) at the Play 4 Mae tournament at Woodland Hills.
Butler 51, Armstrong 27 – Amelia McMichael had 17 points as Butler (1-0) beat Armstrong (0-1) in nonsection play. Marlo Mellish led Armstrong with 14 points.
Canon-McMillan 43, Chartiers Valley 40 – In a nonsection game, Faye Saunders scored 14 points and Madison Clair had 11 points as Canon-McMillan (1-0) beat Chartiers Valley (0-1). Rachael Boehm scored 12 points and Emma Reynolds had 10 for Chartiers Valley.
Chartiers-Houston 66, Charleroi 9 – Ava Kolovich scored 20 points to lead Chartiers-Houston (1-0) to a nonsection win over Charleroi (0-1).
Deer Lakes 46, Yough 18 – Anna Clark scored 15 points and Sophia Laurenza added 11 to lead Deer Lakes (2-0) past Yough (1-1) in the championship game of the tournament hosted by the Lancers.
Geibel Catholic 63, Carmichaels 21 – Emma Larkin scored 33 points as Geibel Catholic (2-0) downed Carmichaels (0-2) at the Jefferson-Morgan tournament. Ava Henderson added 14 points and Mallory Clemmer 10 points for Geibel, which outscored Carmichaels 33-4 in the first quarter. Ali Jacobs had 11 points in the loss.
Greenville 42, Laurel 31 – Ava Cascio scored 17 points and Kinlie Kirila added 13 to lead Greensville (2-0) at the Mercer tournament. Shyan Tindall scored 13 and Maelee Hill chipped in 10 for Laurel (0-2).
Hampton 58, Valley 38 – Ellie Klocko and Katie Christy each scored 15 points to lead Hampton (2-0) to a win in the championship game of the Leechburg tournament. Erin Baker added 12 for the Talbots. Janelle Norman scored 14 points and Neveah Lyle added 11 for Valley (1-1).
Indiana 38, Juniata Valley 12 – Julia Antonacci and Emily Betsinger scored nine points apiece to lead Indiana (1-1) to a nonsection win.
Keystone Oaks 61,.Western Beaver 13 – Lainey Wagner scored 18 points and Nina Deweese and Hannah York added 16 points each as Keystone Oaks (2-0) defeated Western Beaver (0-2) at the South Side tournament.
Latrobe 53, Johnstown 30 – Maggie Maiers scored 18 points and Brylee Bodnar added 12 as Latrobe (1-0) opened its season with a win at the North Allegheny tournament. LaLonai Tisinger scored 12 for Johnstown (0-1).
McGuffey 65, Avella 40 – Taylor Schumacher scored 26 points, including the 1,000th of her career, to lead McGuffey (2-0) past Avella (1-1) in the championship game of the Avella tournament. Lexi Ewig added 10 points for the Highlanders.
Montour 41, Quaker Valley 28 – Abby Cleary scored 19 points and Tiffany Miller added 11 points as tournament host Montour (2-0) defeated Quaker Valley (0-2). Mimi Thiero recorded 17 points in the loss.
Mt. Lebanon 60, Blackhawk 43 – Payton Collins hit five 3-pointers and scored 21 points to lead Mt. Lebanon (1-0) at the North Allegheny tournament. Elizabeth Twyman added 14 and Emily Smith had 10 for the Blue Devils. Aubree Hupp scored a game-high 23 points and Andrea Kinger had 10 for Blackhawk (0-1).
North Allegheny 55, McKeesport 29 – Rosalia Varlotta scored 17 points and Vange Balouris added 13 to lead North Allegheny (1-0) to a win at the tournament hosted by the Tigers. Emily Eisenberg led McKeesport (0-1) with 11 points.
Oakland Catholic 49, Imhoptep Charter 44 – Alayla Bivins scored 24 points as Oakland Catholic (1-0) rallied from a 30-19 halftime deficit to beat Imhotep Charter (0-1) at the Play 4 Mae tournament at Woodland Hills. Anise Geiger scored 19 for Imhotep.
Penn-Trafford 56, Seneca Valley 40 — At the Play 4 Mae tournament at Woodland Hills, Kamryn Pieper had 11 points as Penn-Trafford (1-0) beat Seneca Valley (0-1). Gracie Cato and Reece McFadden scored 10 each for the Raiders.
Shady Side Academy 56, Belle Vernon 19 – Karis Thomas scored 18 points and Cassie Sauer added 14 to help Shady Side Academy (1-0) to a win at the Play 4 Mae tournament at Woodland Hills. Aubrey Brown led Belle Vernon (0-1) with eight points.
South Fayette 70, Altoona 38 – Ryan Oldaker scored 23 points to lead South Fayette (1-0) past Altoona (0-1) at the North Allegheny tournament. Juliette Leroux added 15 points and Lailah Wright had 12 for the Lions.
South Side 35, Hopewell 4 – Eden Schrier scored 16 points to lead South Side (2-0) to victory at the tournament hosted by the Rams. Maya Richburg scored 11 for Hopewell (0-2).
Thomas Jefferson 77, Knoch 19 – Kaylee DeAngelo hit six 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Thomas Jefferson (2-0) over Knoch (0-2) at the Montour tournament. Riley McCabe added 17 points and Maggie Spell had 14 for Thomas Jefferson. Karlee Butterbaugh paced Knoch with 10 points.
West Greene 54, Jefferson-Morgan 18 – Kendra Tharp scored 12 points and Madelyn Roberts and Marissa Tharp added 11 points each as West Greene (2-0) beat tournament host Jefferson-Morgan (0-2).
York Suburban 54, Allderdice 40 – At Woodland Hills, Lydia Powers had 14 points as York Suburban (1-0) beat Allderdice (0-1) at the Play 4 Mae tournament. Bailey White led Allderdice with 12 points.

Avella 62, Frazier 51 – Bryce Wright had 19 points and 10 rebounds as Avella (1-1) beat Frazier (0-2) in overtime in the consolation game of the McGuffey tournament. Brayden Fuller added 13 points, Eli Maidment 11 points and Rylan Bell 10 points for Avella. Dalian McManus led Frazier with 19 points while Kolby Stewart scored 11 and Conlan Higbee added 10.
Beaver 73, Franklin 41 – Brady Mayo scored 23 points to lead four players in double figures for Beaver (2-0) in a win at the Shenango tournament. Nick Krzeczowski and Junior Marino each added 14 and Logan Weiland had 13 for the Bobcats. Al Umbenhour led Franklin (1-1) with 12.
Burgettstown 68, Propel Montour 59 – Bryce Speer scored 15 points to lead Burgettstown (1-0) to a nonsection win. Parker Rommes and Colton County each added 11 and Blake Neal had 10 for the Blue Devils. John Anderson led all scorers with 29 points for Propel Montour (0-1). Ty’Aire Hawkins had 13 and Mar’Jai Porch 10.
Butler 71, Obama Academy 52 – Andrew Gettinger scored 24 points and Stainton Forbes added 21 as Butler (1-0) defeated Obama Academy (0-1) at the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament.
Central Valley 49, West Allegheny 45 – Gabriel Raso scored 14 points and Angelo Conti contributed 11 for Central Valley (1-0) in a win at the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament. Josiah Johnson led West Allegheny (0-1) with 12 points.
Chartiers Valley 79, Freeport 40 – Julian Semplice scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures for Chartiers Valley (1-0) in a nonsection win. Jayden Davis and Luca Federico each had 14 points and Danny Slizak added 12. Mike Graczyk led all scorers with 20 points for Freeport (0-1).
Deer Lakes 48, Armstrong 32 – Nathaniel Moore led all scorers with 15 points and Collin Rodgers and JT McCue added 13 each for Deer Lakes (2-0) at the Armstrong tournament. Carter Schotting scored 13 for the River Hawks (0-2).
Elizabeth Forward 77, Thomas Jefferson 69 (OT) – Tyler Basic scored 25 points as Elizabeth Forward (1-1) rallied from a 32-15 halftime deficit to win in overtime at the MVI Shootout Classic. Daniel Spence added 17 points, Cy Herchelroath had 15 and James Gile 13 for the Warriors. Nicholas Trklja scored 31 points and Noah Kaszer had 18 for Thomas Jefferson (1-1).
Ellwood City 66, Rochester 39 – Aaron Lake hit for 31 points to lead Ellwood City (1-1) at the tournament hosted by the Wolverines. Chris Smiley added 11 points. Jayvin Hemer led Rochester (0-2) with nine.
Jeannette 63, Brashear 36 – Kymon’e Brown scored 22 points and Marcus McGowen contributed 16 to power Jeannette (1-0) past Brashear (0-1) at the Play 4 Mae tournament at Woodland Hills.
Keystone Oaks 63, Western Beaver 24 – Erond Jakupi hit four three-pointers, all in the first half, on the way to scoring 18 points to lead Keystone Oaks (2-0) over Western Beaver (0-2) in the South Side tournament. Keystone Oaks led 49-13 at halftime.
Latrobe 71, Richland 33 – Max Butler scored 20 points to lead Latrobe (2-0) past Richland (1-1) in the championship game of the tournament hosted by the Wildcats. John Wetzel and Dom Scarton added 15 points each for Latrobe.
Laurel 65, Perry 45 – Jayden Iorio had 27 points and 20 rebounds to lead tournament host Laurel (2-0) to victory over Perry (0-2). Mason Ernst added 18 points for Laurel while Landen Boykin paced Perry with 19 points.
Leechburg 53, Summit Academy 51 – Brady Rollinger scored 15 points and Mason Scitticate added 14 as Leechburg (1-1) defeated Summit Academy (0-2) in the consolation game at the Leechburg tournament.
Moon 63, Knoch 56 – Michael Santicola scored 17 points to lead Moon (1-1) at the Geneva College/Lincoln Park tournament. Amir Turner added 13 points and Carter Tumulty and Caiden Kopay each had 12 for the Tigers. Jackson Bauman scored a game-high 18 points for Knoch (0-1).
Ringgold 68, Brownsville 60 – Szyair Dungee scored 18 points and hit four 3-pointers as Ringgold (2-0) beat Brownsville (0-2) at the MVI Shootout Classic. Demetri Lowe added 16 points for Ringgold while teammates Demaris Tolliver and Xavion Thomas contributed 12 and 10 points. Brownsville’s Jaiden Praster led all scorers with 21 points while Preston Rosado added 16 points and Max Oieudonne chipped in 10 points.
Riverside 63, Commodore Perry 31 – Logan Young scored 14 points and Will Sullivan added 12 to help Riverside (2-0) to a win at the Laurel tournament. Xavier Williams scored 12 points for Commodore Perry (0-2).
River Valley 48, Highlands 44 – Max Persichetti scored 18 points to lead River Valley to the win against Highlands (1-1) at the Armstrong tournament. Preston Foster led Highlands with 15 points while Ty Hall added 14 points and Troy Bielak contributed 13 points.
Serra Catholic 64, McKeesport 55 – Owen Dumbrowski scored 23 points to lead four players in double figures for Serra Catholic (2-0) at the MVI Shootout Classic. Mark Johnson added 14, Mekhi Underwood had 11 and Tyler Sapida 10. Lamont Perkins led all scorers with 26 points for McKeesport (0-1). Matt Sebelia added 14.
South Allegheny 69, Belle Vernon 58 – Josh Jackowski scored 27 points and Cam Epps added 21 to lead South Allegheny (2-0) at the MVI Shootout Classic. Jake Uher added 10 for the Gladiators. Trevor Kovatch scored 20 and Zion Moore added 19 for Belle Vernon (0-2). Tommy Davis had 10.
South Side 75, Hopewell 73 – Andrew Corfeld scored 29 points and Carter Wilson added 24 to power South Side (1-1) at the tournament hosted by the Rams. Zack Kovell scored 23 to lead Hopewell (1-1). Brody Rock had 18 and James Armstrong added 17.
Trinity 50, Canon-McMillan 47 (OT) – Jacob Dunkle scored 20 points and Jonah Williamson chipped in 12 to lead Trinity (1-0) to a nonsection win in overtime. Roman Koenermund scored 22 for Canon-McMillan (0-1).
Union 91, Blackhawk 86 – At the Ellwood City tournament, Lucas Stanley scored 35 points for the second straight game and Landon Eckert added 28 points as Union beat Blackhawk in overtime. Maddox Thompson chipped in 12 points for Union while teammate Jamel Mitchell had 11 points. Tyler Heckathorn led Blackhawk with 30 points and 13 rebounds while Justin Shanor and Marco Fusetti contributed 28 and 13 points.
Valley 54, Apollo-Ridge 46 – Freshman Dawson Wall hit four 3-pointers and finished with 15 points to lead Valley in the championship game of the Leechburg tournament. Senior Mickael Allen also scored 15 points for Valley (2-0). Zane Beatty scored 18 points and Brayden Myers added 12 for Apollo-Ridge (1-1).
