High school roundup: Freedom boys upset No. 1 Sewickley Academy

Sewickley Academy's winning run came to an end Thursday afternoon.
The Panthers, who had not lost a section boys soccer game since Oct. 11, 2011 (1-0 to OLSH), dropped a 2-1 decision to Freedom. The No. 1-ranked Panthers (1-3, 1-1) had won 60 straight section games before losing in a Section 1-A contest Thursday.
Ethan Paxton scored for Freedom (4-0, 2-0).
Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 4, Vincentian Academy 0 — Joe Kearney scored twice and had an assist to lift Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic (3-0, 2-0) to a Section 3-A win.
Canon-McMillan 1, Butler 0 — Chris Viveros scored and Ben Popko earned the shutout to lead Canon-McMillan (4-0, 1-0) to a Section 2-AAAA win.
Central Catholic 5, Penn Hills 0 — In Section 3-AAAA, Dan Schearer had two goals to help Central Catholic (1-1-1, 1-0) earn a win.
Bethel Park 1, North Allegheny 0 (OT) — David Conely scored in overtime to help Bethel Park (2-0-1) edge No. 1 North Allegheny (3-0).
Girls soccer
Gateway 3, Woodland Hills 0 — Becca Kubler had two goals and Jenna Guido added a goal as Gateway () won a nonsection game. Amanda Stroh had five saves. The game was called eight minutes into the second half because of lightning.
