High school roundup: No. 2 Peters Township tops USC to stay unbeaten

The No. 2-ranked Peters Township girls soccer team earned its eighth straight win Wednesday night, topping rival Upper St. Clair, 1-0, in a Section 2-AAAA game.

Hannah Stuck scored on an assist from Kaila McFerran to give the Indians (8-0, 3-0) all the scoring they needed.

Upper St. Clair fell to 2-4-2 overall and 1-2-1 in section play.

Ringgold 2, Chartiers Valley 1 — Johna Mayer and Halley Frizzell scored as Ringgold (3-3-1, 2-3-1) won in Section 3-AAA.

Thomas Jefferson 7, Obama Academy 1 — Lia Manning had three goals and an assist to lead No. 4 Thomas Jefferson (7-1, 5-1) to a Section 3-AAA win. Bella Sestito added two goals and two assists.

South Fayette 3, Blackhawk 0 — Rachel Weis, Sara Meindl and Brenna McGuire scored to carry South Fayette (5-1-2, 4-1-1) to a win in Section 4-AAA.

Bentworth 9, Chartiers-Houston 1 — Jocelyn Timlin had six goals and Paige Marshalek had three to guide No. 4 Bentworth (5-2-1, 4-0-1) to a Section 2-A win.

Boys soccer

Central Catholic 2, Fox Chapel 1 — In Section 3-AAAA, Dan Schearer and Nicholas Lenhart scored to lift Central Catholic (5-2-2, 5-0-1) to victory. Will Carnavale scored for the Foxes (5-4, 4-2).

Girls golf

Section 1-AAA Mars' Natalie Welsh shot 2-under par 70 at Conley's Golf Course to finish first at the Section 1-AAA qualifier. Others to finish below the target score of 89 were Pine-Richland's Lauren Feyvogel (71), Seneca Valley's Kennedy Johnston (72), Mars' Victoria Witouski (81), Butler's Hannah Folk (84) and Maggie Feczko (88) and New Castle's Lindsay Frabotta (86).

Section 4-AAANorth Allegheny junior Caroline Wrigley shot 1-under par 72 to earn medalist honors at the Section 4-AAA qualifier at Pittsburgh North Golf Course. She will be joined at the WPIAL championships Oct. 4 at Diamond Run Golf Club by teammates Christina Lewis (75) and Esha Vaidya (87), Shady Side Academy's Alexandra Muracca (81) and Fox Chapel's Hannah Conroy (84). They all met the target score of 90.

Section 2-AA — At the Club at Shadow Lakes, Sewickley Academy's Tatum McKelvey shot 3-over par 76 to finish first at the Section 2-AA qualifier. Also advancing to the WPIAL championships were Central Valley's Kiara Porter (81) and Brianna Fleming (83), Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic's Madie Smithco (84), Sewickley Academy's Zoe Luther (84), Avonworth's Katie Carlson (86), Hopewell's Joei Ritmiller (89) and Aquinas Academy's Leelah Ohayon (92).
