High school softball roundup for April 10, 2019: Ringgold upsets No. 3 Thomas Jefferson

Kylie Gosliak hit a walk-off fielder’s choice in the eighth inning to help Ringgold upset No. 3 Thomas Jefferson, 7-6, in a Section 2-4A softball game Wednesday afternoon.

Jillian Scherer had two RBIs, and Ashlee Selembo hit a two-run home run for the Rams (2-4, 2-3).

Abby Chalovich hit a two-run homer for the Jaguars (6-2, 3-2).

Baldwin 11, Canon-McMillan 7 — Cassie Carlson hit a three-run home run and Cheyenne Shandor hit a two-run blast as No. 5 Baldwin (7-1, 6-1) topped No. 2 Canon-McMillan (5-3, 4-2) in a Section 1-6A game. Grace Higgins homered and had three RBIs for the Big Macs.

North Allegheny 7, Pine-Richland 2 — Brooke Serbin was 4 for 4 with an RBI, and Ashley Adams and Kristen Chomos each knocked in two runs as No. 3 North Allegheny (6-0, 5-0) won in Section 2-6A.

Gateway 15, Oakland Catholic 2 (5 inn.) — Sydney Hunter homered and had four RBIs, and Maura Ryan and Emma Kennedy also had home runs as Gateway (4-3, 3-3) won in Section 2-5A.

Indiana 3, Uniontown 1 — Alexis Bonatch and Audrey Josephson each had RBIs to help Indiana (5-3, 2-2) win a Section 1-4A game. Haleigh Zimmerman struck out six in the win.

Elizabeth Forward 11, McKeesport 1 (5 inn.) — Taylor Ludwick and Jordan Pinneri each doubled and had two RBIs as Elizabeth Forward (5-3, 4-0) won in Section 2-4A.

Hopewell 15, Beaver Falls 0 (4 inn.) — Riley Lewis had five RBIs, and Katelyn Ramaley was 4 for 4 with an RBI as Hopewell (3-3, 1-3) won in Section 2-3A.

South Allegheny 10, Waynesburg 0 (5 inn.) — Christina Pasinski and Madison Taylor each had three hits to help No. 2 South Allegheny (10-1, 4-1) win in Section 3-3A. Cortney Woytovich threw a four-hitter.

South Side Beaver 16, Carlynton 5 (5 inn.) — MaKenzie Freeman had two home runs and four RBIs, and Kaitlyn Woodling and Sydney Payne each homered and had three RBIs to lead South Side Beaver (5-2, 4-1) to a Section 1-2A win.

Carmichaels 7, Bentworth 0 — Winning pitcher Kylie Sinn had three RBIs and tossed a two-hitter as Carmichaels (5-3, 4-2) won in Section 3-2A.

Sewickley Academy 15, Rochester 0 (5 inn.) — Alexis Barlock threw a two-hitter, and Maggie Goebel and Kendall Lightcap each had four hits as No. 5 Sewickley Academy (2-1, 2-1) won in Section 1-A.

West Greene 10, Jefferson-Morgan 0 (6 inn.) — Brianna Amos homered and had three RBIs, and Jersey Wise also homered as No. 1 West Greene (6-3, 3-0) won in Section 2-A. Jade Renner threw a one-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Penn-Trafford 6, Latrobe 2 — The No. 2-ranked Warriors scored three runs in the third inning and another three in the sixth to secure a Section 1-5A win.

Brooke Cleland was 4 for 4 with two doubles, and Allie Prady doubled for the Warriors (7-0, 6-0), who stand alone in first place in the section standings. Morgan Hilty threw a five-hitter with two strikeouts to earn the win.

Emily Shumucker was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs for Latrobe (8-1, 5-1). Jordan Tallman took the loss after allowing four earned runs and four walks. She struck out 10.

Franklin Regional 4, Kiski Area 0 — Angalee Beall threw a five-hitter with six strikeouts and went 2 for 4 with a triple and RBI as Franklin Regional (6-3, 5-1) won in Section 1-5A. Mariah Deriggi knocked in two runs in the victory. Alayna Mintz and Alexa Nagy each had two hits for Kiski Area (0-6, 0-6).

Hempfield 3, Butler 2 (8 inn.) — Olivia Persin laced a single in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Ashley Orischak with the winning run as Hempfield (5-3, 5-1) picked up a Section 2-6A victory. Emma Hoffner doubled, and Orischak had two hits for the Spartans.

Norwin 13, North Hills 1 (6 inn.) — Victoria Shimko was 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs as Norwin (5-2, 4-2) won a Section 2-6A game. Alexandra Brentzel, Bailee Bertani and Leah Yoder all knocked in two runs. Sydney Lokay earned the win.

Highlands 4, Greensburg Salem 1 — Sara Sawhook hit a two-run single to shallow left field in the fifth inning as Highlands rolled to a Section 1-4A win. Kylie Zourelias singled twice, and Rachel Blackburn hit an RBI double to lead the Rams. Jaycee Haidze struck out three batters and gave up five hits through seven innings for Highlands (3-3, 2-2). Rena Caruso took the loss for Greensburg Salem (2-5, 1-3).

Freeport 13, Derry 2 (5 inn.) — Tori Radvan homered and drove in three runs and struck out 11 in the circle as the Yellowjackets (6-0, 5-0) won a Section 1-3A game. Freeport collected 15 hits, and Ally DeJidas went 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs. Derry (1-5, 1-3) opened the game with a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Southmoreland 8, Steel Valley 3 — Tyson Martin and Lexi Klatt each homered, and Emily Eutsey knocked in two runs to help No. 4 Southmoreland (4-2, 3-2) win in Section 3-3A. Jess Matheny threw a four-hitter with four strikeouts to earn the victory.

Ligonier Valley 10, Homer-Center 0 (5 inn.) — In her first varsity start, freshman Maddie Griffin tossed a no-hitter with 11 strikeouts to lead Ligonier Valley (7-0, 7-0) to a District 6 Heritage Conference win. Courtney McKlveen had four hits, including two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.

Burrell 13, Deer Lakes 12 — In Section 1-3A, Burrell got a three-run walk-off homer from Sara Clark in the bottom of the seventh to earn a win.

Clark added a two-run homer and finished with five RBIs for Burrell (4-2, 3-1). Kayla Santucci added a solo home run, Cara Fiore doubled twice and tripled, and Caroline Dynka picked up the win for the Bucs.

Hannah Mass collected three hits with two doubles and three RBIs for Deer Lakes (3-6, 3-1).

Knoch 10, Central Valley 0 (5 inn.) — The Class 4A No. 4 Knights broke open the game with a five-run second inning, cruising to a Section 3 win over Central Valley (1-5, 1-3). Marissa Melius and Monica Gourley doubled in the inning for the Knights (6-0, 4-0).

Valley 11, East Allegheny 1 (5 inn.) — The Vikings put one in the win column for the first time this season. Mackenzie Booker, Casey Gatto and Rylee Gatto each collected two hits and drove in two runs for Valley (1-5, 1-4) in the Section 1-3A contest. Auveonna Perkins added a home run in the Vikings’ 10-hit attack. Andie Jo Conwell surrendered three hits and struck out four to earn a complete-game victory.

Riverview 7, Northgate 2 — Alyssa Cappa pitched a complete game, giving up four hits and striking out 16, to lead Riverview past Section 2-2A foe Northgate (1-6, 0-4). Molly Collins tripled and knocked in a run for the Raiders (4-2, 3-2).

Hampton 6, Plum 2 — Anneliese Probeck homered and struck out eight in Hampton’s Section 2-5A win over No. 5 Plum. Alyssa Schofield homered, and Gabby Fischetti doubled for Plum (6-2, 5-1).

Seneca Valley 7, Fox Chapel 2 — Karli Hacker homered, tripled, singled and drove in three runs as No. 1 Seneca Valley defeated Fox Chapel in Section 2-6A play. Neena Pietropaolo doubled for Fox Chapel (0-6, 0-6).
