Fox Chapel came into Monday night’s match against Gateway riding an 11-game winning streak and also sporting a 21-game unbeaten streak at home and both streaks continued with a 4-0 shutout win at Fox Chapel Stadium.

The Foxes attack dominated the match and Fox Chapel possessed the ball for most of the night but held only a 1-0 lead at halftime. Senior forward Taylor Cohen scored the game’s first goal when she nudged a Deena DeBaldo feed past Gators goalkeeper Emma Skledar with her left foot in the 8th minute. Fox Chapel had 13 first half opportunities and registered 6 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes.

The story was the same for most of the second half and the insurance for Fox Chapel came late in the game as the Foxes kept the pressure on in the attack zone. DeBaldo, the junior midfielder, who had several near misses in the contest, found the net in the 74th minute after a great sequence of dribbling moves just inside the top of the box.

Four minutes later, after re-entering the game as an attacking mid, senior Maggie Coulson beat Skledar to make it 3-0 Fox Chapel. Earlier in the game, Coulson had hit the far post on a penalty kick in the 24th minute.

Cohen then finished the contest with her second goal of the night, bookending the scoring by converting a feed from Coulson in tight to make the final score 4-0. Freshman goalkeeper Kate Feczko earned the shutout but faced only one shot at net in the contest. The clean slate was the 12th of the year for Fox Chapel.

With the loss, Gateway fell to (6-7) in Class AAA Section 3 and the defeat eliminated the Gators from the playoff chase. Fox Chapel improved to (14-1) overall and the Foxes remain perfect in the section at (13-0). Fox Chapel had already clinched the Section Championship and the Foxes will try to finish section play perfect on Wednesday when they visit the second place Plum Mustangs.

The Foxes will once again hit the “net” on MSA when they play host to the Hampton Talbots on Senior Night from Fox Chapel High School. You can hear that match as part of the Hometown Girls Volleyball Program on October 19th at 7 PM on the MSA Sports Network
