A pair of first time champions each shot a 2-over-par 75 Monday afternoon as Canon-McMillan junior Laurel Waller won the Class AAA title and senior Macky Fouse of Central Valley captured gold in Class AA in the 2013 WPIAL Girls Individual Golf Championships at the Hillcrest Country Club in Lower Burrell.

After finishing in second place a year ago, Waller cruised to the Class AAA championship, winning by five strokes. Waller was 1-under through 7 holes before a double bogey on both the 8th and 9th holes put her at +3 at the turn. But she quickly re-grouped to birdie the 10th and ended up with a birdie on the 18th for a 75. The closest finisher was Peters Township freshman Mia Kness, who shot a +5 80. Taking home the bronze was shared between Marissa Balish, a sophomore from Hampton and North Allegheny sophomore Megan Leto, who each shot an 81.

Meanwhile, it was a dominant performance by the girls on the Central Valley golf team in Class AA. The Warriors had five members qualify for the field of 18, then three of them each earned a medal, led by senior Macky Fouse, who shot a +2 75. Fouse was at an even par through the first nine holes and was at -1 through 15 holes before she double bogeyed 16 and bogeyed 17 to make things interesting. However she made par on the final hole to win by two strokes over Warriors teammates Marissa Sudar and Maddy McDaniel who each shot a +4 77.

2012 WPIAL Class AA champion Gillian Alexander of Jefferson-Morgan did qualify for the Western Regionals, but could not repeat as she shot a +9 82 and finished in fith place.

The top 7 Class AAA golfer and the top 8 Class AA golfer advance to the PIAA Western Regional Tournament on Wednesday, October 16th at the Toms Run Golf Course in Blairsville.
