Hollis Mathis’ career at William & Mary has seen various iterations. Initially, the Penn Hills graduate was slotted in as quarterback for the Tribe. However, things changed over the time Mathis spent in the program.

During a season-ending loss to Richmond last week, Hollis ended his career by hitting an interesting milestone.

Mathis finished the game with a team-high six catches for 60 yards. That pushed Mathis over 1,000 yards receiving for his career.

Mathis became only the second player in college football history to record 1,000 career passing, rushing and receiving yards.

Paul Dombrowski, who played at New Mexico State from 2002-05, was the only other player to accomplish the feat.

Mathis had the benefit of an extra year because of the pandemic.

Mathis finished with 1,091 rushing yards, 1,716 passing yards and 1,005 rushing yards.

Kelly settles in

Penn Hills graduate Daemer Kelly left Quinnipiac after a season looking for a better fit.

The sophomore guard is finding comfort in a role with the Red Flash.

Kelly is averaging 6.4 points per game for St. Francis.

Kelly scored a season-high 10 points during a 92-62 loss to Penn State on Nov. 12.

Good year for Thomases

It was a good football season for the Thomas brothers.

Corey Thomas Jr. found success while playing for the Virginia Cavaliers.

Corey played in over 40 games for Akron before transferring to Virginia. He has intercepted two passes this season.

Notably, Corey sealed the Cavaliers’ upset win over then-ranked Pitt with an interception.

Clarion freshman Cam Thomas, a 2024 Penn Hills graduate, would like to try to follow a similar path as his brother.

Thomas recorded 10 tackles and broke up a pair of passes for the Golden Eagles as a freshman.

All-section honors

The end of every sports season brings the opportunity for players to be recognized for their contributions.

Three Penn Hills volleyball players earned all-section honors this season.

Nyeila Ferguson was picked for the second team while KJ McGee and Zakeira Montini were chosen as honorable mentions.

For the boys soccer team, Penn Hills goalkeeper Jadon Robbins was picked for first-team honors by the coaches in the section. Chase Delehanty was named honorable mention.

Atheena Burnett was named honorable mention for the girls soccer team.

Mitchell named player of year

Penn Hills running back Naytel Mitchell was named Northeast Conference player of the year.

The following Penn Hills football players were picked on the all-conference first team: Carter Bonner, Martel Palmer, Darrell Banks, Camryn Price and Donovan Burnett.

The following Indians were chosen for the second team: Angelo Baleno, Jay’mere Ellis, Ron Porter, Derek Selby Jr. and Gerald Jones.
