PIAA softball quarterfinals roundup: West Greene rolls into state semifinals

Reigning state champion West Greene continued its march through the PIAA softball tournament Thursday with a convincing 10-0 victory over McConnellsburg in the Class A quarterfinals at Somerset.

The WPIAL champion Pioneers (21-4) scored three runs in the first two innings and rolled to the six-inning win.

Madison Renner was 2 for 4 with a double, home run and three RBIs, and winning pitcher Jade Renner was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. McKenna Lampe added three hits.

Jade Renner threw a four-hitter in the circle.

The Pioneers will next face off with rival Monessen (17-4) in a rematch of the WPIAL title game. The semifinal game will be Monday at a time and site to be determined.

Class 3A

Philipsburg-Osceola 8, South Park 6South Park (17-3) fell behind 5-0, and despite rallying to make it a game, fell in the PIAA Class 3A quarterfinals at St. Francis.

Kaitlyn Pavlik hit a two-run home run, Laura Shinavski hit an RBI double, Kaitlin Morrison had a sacrifice fly and Grace Albitz added an RBI single for the Eagles.

Class 2A

Mohawk 5, Cochranton 2 — At Moniteau, Kaylee Boring hit a two-run home run, and Madison Shiderly hit a solo shot as Mohawk (17-2) won a PIAA Class 2A quarterfinal over the District 10 runner-up.

Mohawk will play District 6 champion Mount Union (22 -1) in the semifinals.
