Bishop McCort senior Raman Yerameichyk had quite a night Monday in a 14-5 win over Wheeling Catholicon his way to becoming this week’s TribLIVE High School Sports Network’s PIHL Player of the Week.

In Class AAA, as of Saturday, December 22, the points leader has 18 points. On one end, it’s a testament to the scoring depth of the classification. In AA, the points leader has 27 points. In Class A, the leader has 43 points. Division 2’s leader has 42.

In one game, Yerameichyk put himself into the top five in Single-A by scoring nine points in that 14-5 win for the defending Penguins Cup champs.

Yerameichyk tallied four goals and five assists in the victory. It was a night Bishop McCort coach John Bradley said his whole team was firing on all cylinders.

“He has played really well. He’s done a good job the last couple games with us having some guys out of the lineup for different reasons,” said Bradley. “He was out on the ice [Monday] about every other shift.”

Bradley described Yerameichyk as a good skater, one who can distribute along with making plays.

“He makes everyone a little better, and skill-wise, he’s one of the best we’ve had in a long time,” said Bradley. “He does a lot of things right.”

It’s Yerameichyk’s first season with the school team, as he plays amateur hockey for the Esmark Stars.

Yerameichyk has 14 goals, which is tied for the sixth-best total in A. His 19 assists are the second-best total in the classification and his 33 points tie him for fourth in the class.

Ultimately, Bradley said Yerameichyk’s goal is to play at the next level, and Bradley said his senior has a shot.

“His ability and work ethic is second to none. He takes everything seriously and loves the game of hockey,” said Bradley. “He’s got a few things he’s got to work on, but overall, he’s pretty good.”

Yerameichyk and Bishop McCort will resume play Jan. 3 at Greensburg Salem.
