Pittsburgh high school roundup: Garofoli nets 44 as Mt. Lebanon wins season opener

Antonio Garofoli showed off his shooting touch on opening night of the boys basketball season Friday.

The Mt. Lebanon sharpshooter drilled 11 3-pointers and had 44 points to lead the host Blue Devils to an 89-53 victory over St. Francis Prep, N.Y.

Mt. Lebanon (1-0) will host Montour at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Butler 75, Highlands 65 — Ethan Morton recorded a triple-double, scoring 35 points, grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing out 11 assists as Class 6A No. 2 Butler won at the Pine-Richland tip-off tournament. Tarik Taoufik added 12 points for Butler (1-0). Luke Cochran led Highlands (0-1) with 25 points.

California 61, Geibel 42 — Cochise Ryan had 19 points and Dru Miller scored 18 as California (1-0) won at the Geibel tournament.

Cornell 63, Hopewell 43 — At the Carlynton tournament, Kaden Divito and Zaier Harrison each scored 18 points to lead Cornell (1-0) to victory.

Ellwood City 80, Commodore Perry 31 — At the Sharpsville tournament, Anthony Roth had 21 points and Broc Boariu scored 18 to lead Ellwood City (1-0) to victory.

Knoch 58, Blackhawk 38 — At the Armstrong tournament, Julian Sanks scored 26 points to lead Knoch (1-0) to victory.

Latrobe 80, Trinity 77 — Reed Fenton scored 33 points to guide Latrobe (1-0) to a win at the Canon-McMillan tournament. Bryce Butler added 19 points. For Trinity (0-1), Joey Koroly had 18 points and went over 1,000 for his career.

Laurel Highlands 67, Waynesburg 56 — Bryce Laskey had 38 points to lead Laurel Highlands (1-0) to a win at the Fayette County Coaches tournament. Darton McIntire had 28 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career for Waynesburg (0-1).

Mars 91, Avonworth 40 — Notre Dame recruit Robby Carmody had 29 points to lead Class 5A No. 1 Mars (1-0) to a win at the South Park tournament. Andrew Recchia added 17 for the Fighting Planets, who led 27-4 in the first quarter.

Penn Hills 64, Lincoln Park 56 — Daivon Stephens scored 22 points and Cory Fulton added 18 to lead Penn Hills (1-0) to a win at the Midland tournament. Keeno Holmes had 18 points for Class 3A No. 1 Lincoln Park (0-1).

Pine-Richland 81, Summit Academy 26 — Daniel Petcash had 21 points and Colin Luellen scored 19 as Class 6A No. 1 Pine-Richland (1-0) won at its host tournament.

Quaker Valley 70, Sto-Rox 50 — Coletrane Washington poured in 28 points to lead Class 4A No. 1 Quaker Valley (1-0) to a win at the Moon tournament. Danny Conlan added 18 points for the Quakers.

Seneca Valley 47, Hempfield 45 — David Ritchie had 18 points as Seneca Valley (1-0) won at the Hempfield tournament. Braden Brose had 15 points and Marcus McCarthy added 14 for the host Spartans (0-1).

Serra Catholic 79, East Allegheny 50 — Jimmy Moon scored 26 points and added 10 rebounds to lift Serra Catholic (1-0) to a win at its host tournament.

Sewickley Academy 74, West Allegheny 33 — Dave Groetsch had 18 points and Isiah Warfield scored 15 as Class 2A No. 1 Sewickley Academy (1-0) won at the Baldwin/Peters Township tournament.

Steel Valley 71, Northgate 39 — Chase Polak hit seven 3-pointers and scored 27 points to lead Steel Valley (1-0) to a win at the Northgate tournament.

Girls basketball

Avonworth 65, Geibel 18 — Hayden Robinson had 24 points and nine rebounds to guide Avonworth (2-0) to a win at the Brownsville tournament. Robinson also scored 20 points in a win later in the night over Brownsville.

Blackhawk 57, Fox Chapel 50 — Mady Aulbach scored 18 points and Mackenzie Amalia had 17 to lift Class 4A No. 2 Blackhawk (1-0) to a win at the North Hills tournament.

Canon-McMillan 51, Chartiers-Houston 34 — Temple recruit Alexa Williams had 18 points for Class 2A No. 1 Chartiers-Houston (0-1), but the Bucs fell at the Trinity tournament. Izzy Allen and Tamara Mathis each scored 20 for the Big Macs (1-0).

Central Valley 54, Ringgold 39 — Kaelyn Underwood had 21 points, and Christiane Frye scored 20 to lift Central Valley (1-0) to victory at the Montour tournament.

Charleroi 53, Carmichaels 33 — Maria Claybaugh had 18 points to lead Charleroi (1-0) to victory at its host tournament.

East Allegheny 70, Allderdice 43 — Kennesaw State recruit Amani Johnson got off to a fast start, scoring 41 points to lead Class 3A No. 3 East Allegheny (1-0) to a win at the Serra Catholic tournament.

Aqueria Wester had 10 points and 15 rebounds and Emma Waite had 11 points for Allderdice (0-1).

Elizabeth Forward 57, Baldwin 47 — Bri Spirnak scored 23 points to lift Elizabeth Forward (1-0) to a win at the Baldwin tournament.

Hampton 55, McDowell 28 — Ali Collins scored 22 points and Laryn Edwards scored 18 as Class 5A No. 4 Hampton (1-0) won at the Seneca Valley tournament.

Hopewell 35, California 33 — Siara Conley had 11 points for Hopewell (1-0) en route to a win at the South Side Beaver tournament. Bailey Vig scored 14 points for California (0-1).

North Allegheny 57, Penn Hills 41 — Rachel Martindale scored 24 points to pace Class 6A No. 1 North Allegheny (1-0) past No. 2 Penn Hills (0-1) at the Tigers tournament. Ariana Dunson had 15 points for the Indians.

Peters Township 60, South Park 37 — Mackenna Marisa scored 29 points and Isabella Mills had 22 to lead Peters Township (1-0) to a win at its host tournament.

Riverside 75, Shenango 41 — Sydney Wolf had 34 points and Marley Wolf added 26 as Riverside (1-0) cruised to a win at the New Castle tournament.

Seton LaSalle 56, Cornell 24 — Layni Ziegler had 15 points to guide Seton LaSalle (1-0) to a win at the Ambridge tournament.

Sewickley Academy 35, Aquinas Academy 30 — Sam Smith had four 3-pointers and 14 points to lead Sewickley Academy (1-0) to a win at the Aquinas Academy tournament.

South Allegheny 47, Jeannette 34 — Alyssa Minerd had 24 points to lead South Allegheny (1-0) to a win at the Jeannette tournament. Dymond Crawford had 15 points for the Jayhawks.

Wrestling

Kiski Area had eight wrestlers reach the semifinals at the 40th annual Eastern Area Invitational at Gateway and leads the standings with 95 points.

Connellsville (76), Franklin Regional (60.5), West Allegheny (60) and Thomas Jefferson (60) round out the top five.

The semifinals, finals and consolation rounds will be held Saturday.

• At the Chartiers-Houston tournament, South Fayette has five wrestlers in the semifinals and five alive in the consolation bracket and leads the standings with 86 points. Peters Township (77.5), Chartiers Valley (72.5), Freedom (71.5) and Albert Gallatin (69.5) round out the top five.

The semifinals, finals and consolation rounds will be held Saturday.
