Pittsburgh high school roundup: No. 5 Central Valley moves to 5-0

The fifth-ranked Central Valley girls basketball team continued its hot start to the season, earning a 63-43 win over rival Beaver in a Section 2-4A game Monday night.

Christiane Frye and Allyson Kirby each had 17 points for the Warriors (5-0, 1-0) who have outscored opponents 58.0-40.8 on average this season. Kaelyn Underwood added 16 for the Warriors.

Blackhawk 57, New Castle 14 — Mackenzie Amalia had 18 points for No. 2 Blackhawk (4-0, 2-0) in a Section 2-4A win. The Cougars opened a 19-0 lead.

Ringgold 51, Connellsville 42 — In Section 3-5A, Taylor Mendicino and Nya Adams each had 16 points to lead Ringgold (3-3, 1-0) to victory.

East Allegheny 71, South Side Beaver 33 — Amani Johnson scored 21 points, Abby Henderson had 17 and Myla Bortoluzzi had 16 for No. 3 East Allegheny (5-0, 2-0) in a Section 2-3A win.

Bishop Canevin 60, Seton LaSalle 38 — The No. 1 Crusaders closed on a 25-9 run to seal a Section 3-3A win. Shamijha Price had 17 points for Bishop Canevin (3-1, 2-0). Bailey Matrascia had 11 for the Rebels (3-3, 1-1).

Frazier 67, Bentworth 29 — Brooke Poling netted 28 points as Frazier (2-3, 1-1) won in Section 3-2A.

Chartiers-Houston 47, Washington 28 — In Section 1-2A, Alexa Williamson had 24 points to guide No. 1 Chartiers-Houston (3-1, 2-0) to victory.

Bethel Park 64, West Allegheny 46 — Olivia Westthal had 22 points for Class 6A No. 2 Bethel Park (4-1) in a nonsection win.

Canon-McMillan 77, Montour 44 — Izzy Allen had 24 points and 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, as Canon-McMillan (5-1) won a nonsection game. Tamara Mathis had 23 points for the Big Macs.

Peters Township 50, South Fayette 49 — Mackenna Marisa scored 15 points for Class 6A No. 3 Peters Township (6-0) in a nonsection win. Sam Kosmacki had 19 points for South Fayette (1-3).

Thomas Jefferson 58, Upper St. Clair 50 — Marina Petruzzi and Jenna Clark each had 17 points as Thomas Jefferson (5-1) won a nonsection game.

West Mifflin 60, Laurel Highlands 47 — Chayla Poindexter scored 16 points to lead West Mifflin (4-2) to a nonsection win.

Boys basketball

Ambridge 74, Obama Academy 63 — Aaron Hilzendeger had 29 points as Ambridge (4-1) won a nonsection game. DJ Gordon had 26 points to pace Obama Academy (1-4).

Carrick 80, Albert Gallatin 78 (OT) — Daysean Woodson hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds left to tie the game, and Ernest Howard hit a jumper in the final seconds to give Carrick (5-0) a nonsection win. Howard had 20 points for Carrick. Nate English scored 28 for Albert Gallatin (2-4).
