The Pine-Richland boys golf team steamrolled its Section 3-AAA competition on its way to clinching the section title.

As individuals, the Rams have continued to display a measure of dominance. Coach Jeff Seybert's group had six golfers shoot under the target score of 81 at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course in the Section 3-AAA individual qualifier.

“This is the first time ever, actually, at Pine-Richland that we've had six guys make it. We're pretty excited about that,” Seybert said. “Each one of them put in the time, and just to see them finish a couple of strokes apart from one another is really nice because they're all very talented.”

Donnie Professori turned in the lowest score for a Rams, shooting 2-over-par 72. Teammates Jack Kremer (75), Nick Casario (76), Jack Wymard (77), Rico Sciulli (77) and Jacob Anderson (78) finished closely behind.

The six advance to the WPIAL Class AAA semifinals Tuesday at Donegal Highlands Golf Club.

Meanwhile, the Pine-Richland girls will be represented at the WPIAL championship by Lauren Freyvogel, who advanced from the Section 1-AAA qualifier at Conley Resort Golf Course.

Coming off of back-to-back first- place finishes at the section tournament, Freyvogel shot 71. While that score would be good enough to win most years, Freyvogel was edged by Mars' Natalie Welsh, who shot 70.

Together, Welsh and Freyvogel finished with the two lowest scores in all of the WPIAL sectional events.

“She shot well. I mean, a 71,” Rams coach Patti White said. “She was at 1-under-par at that course, so you can't do a whole lot better than that. The girl from Mars was very good, but they will both be moving on now.”

Rams junior golfer Aiyana Chopra shot 90 and missed the cut for the WPIAL championship by one stroke.

The Class AAA girls WPIAL final will be Oct. 4 at Diamond Run Golf Course.
