It’s been quite a month for Greensburg Central Catholic seniors Erin Grace and Maura Oslosky.
For the past few weeks, the duo helped the Centurions to WPIAL and PIAA Class A volleyball titles.
On Tuesday, they represented the Centurions in the annual Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association Volleyball All-Star game at Ligonier Valley.
And while the East team that Grace and Oslosky played for did not win, the duo was honored to represent their team.
In between the second and third games, the duo and teammates received a standing ovation for their accomplishments.
The West squad, which included players from Belle Vernon, Burrell, Franklin Regional, Kiski Area, Norwin, Penn-Trafford and Yough, swept the East by the scores of 25-21, 25-19 and 25-19.
The schools representing the East squad were Derry, Greensburg Central Catholic, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield, Latrobe, Ligonier Valley and Southmoreland.
“I had a lot of fun out there,” Grace said. “I love a lot of these girls I know from clubs, so it’s awesome to get to play with them again.
“I knew everybody on both sides of the court, so it’s super fun.”
Grace was able display some of her talents that helped the Centurions. She had a couple of service aces, blocks and kills.
Oslosky also performed well.
“It was such a great honor to represent my school,” Oslosky said. “It’s nice that players from other schools from all over the county can come together and play together.
“I know we didn’t win, but everybody played great because we haven’t played together before. It was nice.”
Oslosky said the team really hasn’t had a chance to celebrate the state title.
She said the team will hold one last practice Thursday to celebrate.
“Winning the state title doesn’t feel real,” Oslosky said, “but I’m so proud of my teammates. At the beginning of the season, I didn’t know if we could accomplish what we did.
“But we played so hard and worked so hard. It was a perfect ending.”
GCC rallied to defeat Linville Hill Academy, 3-2, in the finals.
“Our serving and defense are what was the difference,” Grace said. “Everyone at the end of the season played their role. We brought it together. That is what brought us home the win.”
Playing for the East were Derry’s Kayla Enos and Regan Repak, Latrobe’s Chiara Mongelluzzo and Mackenzie Myers, Greensburg Salem’s Blessing Gantt and Katie Shea, Hempfield’s Mia Shipman, Ligonier Valley’s Emily Ranklin and Morgan Smith and Southmoreland’s Taylor Doppelheuer and Riley Puckey.
The West All-Stars were Belle Vernon’s Hailey Lazur and Taylor McDaniel, Burrell’s Pyper Ferres, Franklin Regional’s Carson Burgh, Kiski Area’s Maddie Joyce and Jael Ledbetter, Norwin’s Brandi Brozeski and Addison Matovich, Penn-Trafford’s Kylie Anthony and Kaci DePalma and Yough’s Addison Seanor.
