Trib HSSN 2024-25 City League girls basketball preseason breakdown

Six girls basketball teams will again compete in the City League for the 2024-25 season — Allderdice, Brashear, Carrick, Obama Academy, Perry Traditional Academy and Westinghouse.

Allderdice and Obama Academy shared the league title in the regular season at 9-1 last season, followed by Westinghouse (6-4), Brashear (4-6) and Carrick and Perry, both at 1-9.

Here is a rundown of players to watch and top 3 teams in City League girls basketball this season.

Preseason Top 3

1. Allderdice (14-10)

The Dragons won the City League title last season with a 62-39 victory over Obama Academy. Junior guard Bailey White (20.3 ppg) returns after earning City League player of the year honors last season. Sophomore guard/forward Peyton Lynch averaged 15.2 points. The Dragons also feature three seniors — forwards Noriaya Warren, Jaionna Simpson and Mikayla Sharif.

2. Obama Academy (12-10)

Obama Academy won two straight City League championships before falling to Allderdice last winter. The Eagles split the league games with the Dragons to finish 9-1 in City play. Senior guard Taylor Phillips returns to lead the Eagles after averaging 18.0 ppg last season.

3. Westinghouse (10-11)

The Bulldogs reached the City League playoffs last season before falling to Obama Academy, 52-41, in the semifinals. They then lost to Chestnut Ridge in the PIAA regional semifinals.
