The district playoffs are in the rear-view mirror, and the road to Hershey is about to open.

Nearly 200 teams are about to begin a three-week journey referred to as the PIAA girls basketball playoffs.

This week’s edition of the state rankings didn’t have many changes, but it is lighter from a WPIAL standpoint, shrinking from eight teams to six.

Norwin in Class 6A and Oakland Catholic in 5A were bounced after losing in the WPIAL semifinals, and West Greene was ousted in Class A after losing to Rochester in the district title game. The Rams are the only WPIAL team new to the rankings.

Speaking of Class A, three ranked teams lost last week Three new district champs joined the rankings.
