TEAM OF THE WEEK: Kiski Area

The Cavaliers left Hershey with a third-place trophy, their third top-three finish in the past three seasons at the PIAA Class AAA team tournament.

Although it wasn’t the finish Kiski Area hoped for, the Cavaliers did rebound from a semifinal loss to Northampton to beat rival Canon-McMillan in the consolation semifinals and Council Rock South in the third-place match.

Kiski Area next will turn its attention to the WPIAL individual postseason, which begins next weekend in Class AAA.

OTHER NOMINEES

Burrell: The Bucs ultimately finished among the top six teams in the state in Class AA after falling in the PIAA consolation semifinals. Burrell went 3-2 at the tournament, beating Newport in the first round before falling to Saucon Valley in the quarterfinals. The Bucs got a pair of wins in the consolation bracket over Conneaut and Westmont Hilltop before bowing out with a three-point loss to Chestnut Ridge, finishing one win shy of the third-place match.

Canon-McMillan: The Big Macs came within one victory of a medal at the PIAA Class AAA tournament. After a first-round loss to Cedar Cliff, Canon-McMillan battled back in the consolation bracket, getting wins over Selinsgrove, Dallastown and Spring-Ford to reach the consy semifinals, where it met Kiski Area. Though the Big Macs narrowed the gap from the teams’ WPIAL semifinal meeting, Kiski Area ultimately prevailed, 30-24.
