WRESTLING TEAM OF THE WEEK: NORWIN

The Class AAA No. 9 Knights picked up a statement win in Section 1-AAA last week, toppling No. 6 Franklin Regional, 50-24, to put themselves in position to clinch a WPIAL playoff spot.

Norwin dominated the heaviest weight classes against FR, getting a 17-second pin from 220-pounder Ryan Weinzen and another from heavyweight Zach Cypher. The Knights also got pins at 160, 170, 182 and 195.

OTHER NOMINEES:

CANON-MCMILLAN: The Big Macs lived large at the annual Tri-County Athletic Directors Association tournament, claiming the team championship. Four Canon-Mac wrestlers won individual titles.

INDIANA: The Indians defended their own gym effectively, winning the team championship and getting two individual champions at the Indiana Bo Wood Wrestling Tournament.

KISKI AREA: The Class AAA No. 1 Cavaliers keep rolling in tournaments, as five of their wrestlers collected individual titles at the 66th annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association Tournament. The quintet of gold medalists lifted Kiski Area to its fifth consecutive county team title.

WAYNESBURG: The Raiders finished second at the Tri-CADA tournament, but five of their wrestlers won individual championships.

WEST ALLEGHENY: It came down to the wire, but the Indians secured the team championship at the Ed Driscoll MAC tournament. Three Indians wrestlers secured individual championships to lift West A to the title by a one-point margin over Hopewell.
