All eyes are on the weather forecast this week, which calls for wind and possibly rain Wednesday morning with an afternoon temperature near 40.

It's hardly baseball weather.

But almost every WPIAL baseball team is waiting impatiently for the weather to cooperate so they can start their section schedules. So far, only four teams have completed a section contest this season.

Wednesday's schedule lists an intriguing Class 6A matchup between Upper St. Clair (5-0) and Canon-McMillan (3-0), a WPIAL semifinalist last season. The two undefeated teams are expected to play their Section 3 game on the turf at Wild Things Park in Washington at 4 p.m., so there's a real chance they will play.

WPIAL softball teams eager for section schedules

It's hardly been softball weather, either.

North Hills (0-0) and Seneca Valley (1-1) are among the teams schedule to start their section schedules Wednesday afternoon. Each team reached the WPIAL Class 6A quarterfinals last season. Their Section 3 contest is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Seneca Valley.

Only three WPIAL softball section games were contested so far.

Class AA volleyball powers set for section showdown

The Deer Lakes and Derry boys volleyball teams, who battled for the Section 2-AA title last season, meet Wednesday for the first of their two regular-season matchups.

Derry will host Deer Lakes.

Deer Lake swept both matches with Derry last year and finished two games ahead of the Trojans in the standings. Both teams reached the district semifinals last year where Deer Lakes beat Ambridge while Derry fell to eventual champion Beaver County Christian.

Both the Lancers and Trojans qualified for the PIAA playoffs last year, and both lost to District 10 champion Cochranton.
