Highlights of the week ahead in Westmoreland high school sports:

TUESDAY

Boys soccer: A pair of local teams rolled on in the PIAA playoffs with quarterfinal wins over the weekend. Now, they will play in the semis for the chance to go to Hershey to play for state titles.

Both games will be rematches from the WPIAL finals and will be be paired as a doubleheader at Fox Chapel.

Greensburg Central Catholic (19-2) faces Avonworth (22-0-1) in the Class A semis at 6 p.m., and Franklin Regional (20-0-1) tries to continue its best season when it faces West Allegheny (21-2) at 8.

The Class A championship is at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Hersheypark Stadium, with the AAA final at 6:30 that night.

WEDNESDAY

Signing day: Athletes in any sport except football can make verbal commitments official by signing letters of intent with Division I and II schools. A number of local athletes are expected to sign for basketball, baseball, soccer, wrestling, track and field, golf and other sports.

FRIDAY

Football: No. 2 seed Ligonier Valley (12-0) cruised into the District 6 final and will take on top-seeded Richland (12-0) for the Class AA title at 7 p.m. at Mansion Park Stadium in Altoona.

SATURDAY

Football: Derry has been waiting a long time for a day like this. The Trojans (11-1) will make their first appearance in the WPIAL football finals as they take on top-seeded Aliquippa (11-1) in the Class 3A title game at 2 p.m. at Heinz Field.
